    Hello all,
I'm doing a timing belt on my 01 3.4 Tacoma. I've got the bolt out, but can't get the pulley off of the crank. I've tapped it with a hammer and I'm soaking it with penetrating oil now.
    Any suggestions?
    TIA,
    Randy

might be time for a 3 jaw puller or the like. Most any auto parts store rent them out.

BE CAREFUL! You don't want to pull the pulley off and accidently puncture the radiator by slamming the pulley into it.

but I cant offer any help on the pulley. my toyota tech buddy did my timing belt and he just pulled it off without any tools. but I did see him slam my radiator with it. undamaged luckily.

try prying it with a 2 foot long bar?

I tried prying on it a little. Friend of mine has a puller. I'm going to try it. Of everything I've read on doing the TB change nothing was ever mentioned about the pulley itself.

I used a puller on mine last week. Put the bolt back in the hole and rest the puller against the head of the bolt. I put the puller center pin in the hole at first and almost bungled my crank threads. You don't want to mess those threads up! The pulley came off pretty easily once the puller was against the head of the bolt.

Actually, don't use a 3 jaw on the outer ring, use a 2 or 3 bolt puller on the inner threaded holes.

And use a coned center or flat foot that cover the bolt hole in the crank
If it's really stuck you could pull the outer ring off the rubber and inner hub.

Yeah, what he said /\. 1st gens take a 2 bolt puller. In the absence of any corrosion the pulley will side on and off by hand.

Ending up with this will be a continuous source of embarrassment.

I suppose it depends on if the lips on your puller jaws are long enough to grab both the inner and outer parts of the pulley at once. Mine were. I suppose the 2 bolt puller would have worked better, but you use what you've got. But now I'm working on building the 2 bolt puller to get the next gear off to replace my leaky front crank seal.

When selecting bolts to thread into the 3.4 pulley hub keep in mind it's stamped sheet metal (thin) not cast like the previous pic. Don't be forcing things.

3.4 pulley with "crank holder tool" bolted up.
