New to these trucks and I'm curious as to why my engine is so loud over 3000 rpms. I'm sure it's not the fan. I can almost feel it if that makes sense.

My fans pretty loud. Im actually gonna replace the fan clutch to see if that helps. Does the noise change with rpms only or speed as well?

The only time mine is loud is when cold or just starting it after it has sat for at least 20 minutes. I know for me it is the fan and it is loud from about 1500 RPM and up. It also feels more sluggish until the fan clutch starts doing its job.

Does your noise go away once warm or is it all the time and is the noise more like a fan pushing air or something else?

It really is only "loud" from 3k to about maybe 3800, particularly at 3200. It's almost like a humming that I can feel through the motor and automatic transmission, if I rev it in park it does it too.

I'm familiar with the clutch fan noise and I'm confident that's not it. The truck runs, drives and starts (for the most part) fine, again I've never owned a Tacoma. I do know my old Avalon was smooth as silk through the entire power band. Probably overthinking it like usual

I haven't experienced what you are describing in the 13 months I have had mine. I had a strange noise from startup for a while and luckily found the issue before any damage occurred. The prior owner of the truck used a repair shop that never properly tightened the dampener bolt and when I narrowed it down to that area the bolt came out by hand without any tools.

Good luck in finding your issue.

I know exactly what you are talking about. I have a manual and i can always tell when i hit 3k rpms because I can feel it and hear it. Bought it used and thought it was normal. Only time will tell if something is wrong...

Well at least I'm not alone! Glad to know someone knows what I'm referring to and it's not exclusive to the automatic.

These engines have always been known to be loud when you get higher in the RPMs. Kinda gets annoying sometimes, but I'd rather hear that than those Honda Civics with fart cans
