Thanks for such quick reply’s. This is very helpful.

@1997tacomav6 do you have a stock exhaust?
I’m guessing the double cat @Rldanie has is aftermarket.
I do plan to get TRD or Dough headers but that will be a ways in the future.

Early 1st gens came with one cat, most if not all middle to later model ones have 2 due to emissions regulations. My 04 came with 2 cats

Id be interested to know myself...I could have sworn I read all 2001 - 2004 Tacomas met the 2 catalytic converter standard. One shortly after the headers and one before the muffler

The front is stock with a cat back exhaust added,

Was years ago if I remember the cat back section is 1\4”
larger with flow master exhaust and stainless exhaust cap that
was raised to 1/2” below the body line for a cleaner look and better ground clearance

I have finally checked to see what my truck has. I have 2 cats, one of the O2 sensors is before the 2 cats and then there is one after? Is that right? Also if I change out to TRD headers one of the cats will be removed from what I understand.

I have the TRD headers and 2 cats...why would you have to remove one of the cats for them? The headers end shortly before the 1st cat on my truck. There's about 6in or so of exhaust piping after the headers and before the front cat, which is where the front 02 sensor sits

There are 2 connection point. 1 after the cat and one before. The one before has a 3 stud connection as the one after the cat is 2 ( same connection as the TRD headers). If the headers are to connect at the 3 stud connection then I’m puzzled as to how they would work with a stock exhaust.

@eon_blue Do you have any pictures of where you headers connect to the stock exhaust?

@1997tacomav6 for your AFR gauge did you wire the relay for the safety cut function?

Also for those following here is the current update on the TRD headers.
I finally got them installed last night. It wasn't as hard as everyone says. Yes it dose take tame to figure out how to properly angle them to fit around the installed engine but end of the day its due able oh and the 1'' body lift helps a lot. Didn't have to drop the trany or unbolt the engine.
So after all that I was under the impression that the last step to completing the trd header swap was that I needed to cut the cat and weld on another 2 bolt flange but after I installed the headers there is no room for a cat... I have a space between the header down pipe and second cat exactly 4'' in between. So I think the easy way around this is to just do a cat delete and install a spacer to join the down pipe to the 2nd cat.
Let me know what you guys think.
