Thanks Pippen! I greased up the u-joints and that noise went away! I just have to keep regressing every month or so.

This is my exact problem. Knock/ping under engine load at low rpm while up to temp. A/C load does tend to induce sound more so. The only difference is I have the 2.7L 5 speed stick.

It would be extremely helpful if the OP or anyone else could give an update and help nail this down. It's definitely not an exhaust leak or heat shield rattle. Thanks in advance.

I've been having a knock noise too with 3.4l, sounds more like a gear rattling when I'm going up hills. It's been doing it for years now. I don't really know what it could be. Probably the ethanol gas.. who knows

Mine does the same thing. Ive narrowed it down to rotational vibration in the ac compressor/ pulley area. At the same time i can feel the vibration and hear the noise faintly ( at the exact same cadence, rythm and frequency as the ac noise) pretty much everywhere on the passenger side of the engine. There could be bearing noise or something going on at the exact same time as the ac vibration i guess. Would anyone know if its possible for a noisy pulley to make enough noise/ vibration that it would resonate throughout the the block?
