So ive heard quite a deal about the lifespan of the 3.4L engines and how they last almost forever if you maintain them properly. Ive seen a few people around here on the forums amount almost 300K on their odo. Just was wondering since I just hit the 150K mark a couple days ago coming back from work.
Which got me thinking about the lifespan of my truck. Love my dam truck to death and wouldnt trade it in for any vehicle out there, as im sure many of you proud Tacoma owners feel the same way. But realistically speaking Should I be concerned or even considered doing a trade soon?

Also I posted this in the 1st gen forum because I want feedback on how some of you feel on this topic towards your personal 1st gen Tacoma. That being said still feel free to throw in your 2 cents even if your a 2nd gen owner, just was looking for more based personal advice from people who have owned 1st gens.

i have an 02 with barely 110,000 but my neighbor on the otherhand has one with 280,000 miles. so yeah these trucks go forever. if i were you i would keep it unless you want to upgrade to a newer one.

Do your regular maintenance and you should get a few hundred thousand easy.

I have 170k on the ODO and it's fine, I did water pump and timing belt at 120k and change my oil every 6-7k, did my trans and transfer case fluids about 20k ago, keep it lubed and replace broken parts as you go.

Besides a rebuild is really not that expensive.

I drive mine like I stole it and it serves me well.

    Good sound advice!

And sorry for the lack of knowledge of vehicle terms, but what is rake? lol Yea she needs a shit load of upgrades. And Ive done a few things to her. Mainly just tune ups no serious mods. Weathertech Deflectors, mats, new Seatcovers, Air filter, and Deckplate mod. Looking to bust in the Rusto-leum I bought last week and do my flares valence and bumper. Just stockpiling the photos for now and will start my thread build eventually on here. lol

Yea I have a friend with a 03 TRD Access Cab and he has about 340K on his odo. Runs like a charm. Most likely will keep mine till I run it into the ground. And knock on wood, but have never had any major issues with my truck other then my clogged fuel filter which was a easy fix and replacing the battery. It was well tooken care of before when we bought it from my ROTC Instructor and then also when my dad was driving it.

Thanks man! I love my off-road truck. But I wouldn't mind having a nice 4 door like yours for my daily driver.

And your truck might be sitting like that because the front ends coils/ shocks can be a little worn out. Its a common thing though

No problem. We ever meet up though, you have to take me in a ride in that monster, beastly Prerunner man. :D

Wouldnt surprise me I dont believe the coils or shocks have ever been replaced on it. Slowly learning more about it everyday wish I was a guru on it. TW members have help me a great deal on understanding more about my truck. I appreciate any advice so thank you!

    The better coast
I remember reading about a storm chaser who had like 560k on one truck and 600k on another truck and you know he put the engines through workouts.

yeah those double cabs add a nice load on the front springs and with the beefy V6 its the heaviest 1st gen you can get. With stock coils they eventually give in and start to let gravity have its way and sag the front whilst the unloaded back end stays high for when you do use the bed. get some aftermarket coils like OME or Eibach. real strong coils that lift that bad boy right back up where he belongs and then some ;)

I have an 01 with 250k on the clock. Engine still purrs like a kitten. Just make sure you stay up on your maintenance and you should be fine!

As for the rest of the truck I would say it has held up very well for what it's been through. She has her rattles and it's about time to freshen up the suspension and other then my tranny shittin out on me it's been an awesome truck!!

I def hope the newer toyotas are holding up as well!
