This is one thing I have also wondered about. But like Konaborne said though the lift has minor affect on mpg, its usually always an issue with your tires and wheels, the bigger the size the more power it takes to crank those suckers around. Im looking to get some AT's in the next month or so. Still contemplating it though, since its my daily driver, plus I drive roughly around 71 miles to and back from work everyday. Averaging about 18 mpg atm.

i'm rocking 20-22mpg in town and 24 mpg on the highway. Just over 50,000 and its a manual though. Auto trans is just a waste of gas.

I call incorrect readings, estimated mpg for your truck is 17 city 21 freeway.

There is no way you are getting 22-24 mpg. even if you shifted at 2k and drove 50 on the freeway which would be annoying as hell to be behind.

I dont think you are calculating it correctly.

i only get 24 mpg driving 55 on rolling mountain hills and of course gas pumps aren't 100% reliable but thats all i have to go on. miles driven divided by gallons of gas inserted into my baby is the only formula i'm aware of. that being said going below 20 mpg is very rare for me even if spend time in 4x4 and 4 low.

265/70/r16 btw but a manual makes a huge difference as far as mpg is concerned for all vehicles except maybe the new ones with their fancy computers.

That would fall under incorrect readings.

Even when mine was bone stock on near bald rugged terrains and driving like a grandpa my mileage was only 1-2 mpg better than the 16-18 i get now.

I would count miles driven to gallons filled.

i broke 100,000, about 3 months ago. i hope i make it to about 500,000!!
my dad has an '86 hilux, its pushin 300-400,000 he bought it new. and when i was about 7-10 years old he put a rebuilt 22r 4cyl engine in it, the old one still ran and had like 200,000 on it, just wouldnt hold a head gasket. so now hes got the rebuild one, been in there for like 6-7 years now. and runs like the day he got it. "knock on wood" he replaced the distributor, plugs, redid his timing belt, and remodeled the interior. next year hes gonna re-do all the rusted out bed.... :( this is his second one, and the only thing that wont hold up on any of these type trucks... unless it came from japan

will post some pics later for you guys.

i think i quoted those right, someone needs to do their homework. cause i drive a 4x4 almost stock manual and barely get 18! so theres no way your getting 22-24mpg

shoot, i just bought an 03 4door. i just hit 190k. She runs like a champ. minor issue, im not sure if my shocks are worn out or if i just need new tires. ill find out in a week when i get new tires and rims. rim shop suggested i do tires first then go from there.

My '95 3.4L has 258,000 miles and it's still running awesome. What everyone else says about regular maintenance is correct. It's getting to the point where I have to start replacing all the little seals and gaskets due to some leaking. I want this truck to run forever, as well as look good, so I'm slowly replacing cosmetic parts too, which are surprisingly still available from Toyota. Your truck is still a baby.

I got 320 miles on 14.5 gallons.. That is mixed city, highway, hills, doing 95mph passing people sometimes, and a little bit of offroad in the snow (not much, just on our property, not enough to change the gas mileage at all though)

These engines are really well built

My dad hit over 500k on his 88 pickup 3.0, It had the head gasket problem typical with those motors so it burned a little water. He finally got a new car in 1999 and parked the truck in a field. Rats ate all the vaccume hoses and chewed up the wires. We taped up the exposed wires, put new battery and battery leads, the damn thing started right up after sitting for 6 or 7 years. Drove it out of the field with flat tires, and gave it to my uncle. He fixed the vaccume lines and the truck still gets driven today. No idea what he did about the head-gasket problem.

I had a 1999 xtracab 4x4 with a 3.4L that i bought brand new in 2000 as a leftover. I traded it in in 2008 with 474k miles. Toyota gave me a pretty penny on the frame buy back mcgee.
I miss that truck! Only major issue was the o2 sensors.

Depenging on the type of gas in your region, altitude, and other things your MPG's will obviously fluctuate. California gas is known for horrible mileage btw

I have an auto (gas waster ) V6 and I was getting ~ 22mpg on my truck when I first bought it completely stock. I was getting about 350 miles on a tank and fill up with 15-15.5 gallons. Right now with LT and 33's I still get over 18mpg. I usually get 280-290 miles on a tank and fill up with 15-15.5 gallons.
