Perhaps you have seen something on these heads that I haven't? So far I have yet to find a 5VZ head cracked. Plenty of blown head gaskets, but never a cracked head. I do agree with rebuilding what you have. Buying a long block is no different than taking your OLD engine to a shop and have them rebuild it for you. Many shops will do this, and the price is fair.

Just paid 8K for a reman motor. Labor provided by a local shop. Engine came from Jasper out of TX. Includes 3 yr warranty, and the shop matched that for the labor. Reason for engine swap was a cracked head (drivers side #4 cylinder) most likely due to repeated helicoil inserts for that spark plug. Truck ran fine once fuel air mix was correct, mis-fire on cold startup. Needed to smog truck and couldn't pass visual wth check engine light.

Price was a bit steep, but it's a new warranted motor. 3500 for heads alone and only a 30 day warranty. Daughters truck, so reliability is paramount.

The shop matched it for warranty? Strange since Jasper warranties their engines typically parts AND labor anyway. lol. Ah well. At least you know if the engine fails, you are well covered!

Get back up to snuff cuz it wasn't maintained. I got xm radio in it.
I'm still debating whether a used or reman engine for mine (I am still driving it) and am looking at various vendors to get an engine from...
Haven't bought one yet, really don't know where to get one.

Where did you buy your reman engine? I still haven't decided where to buy one from.

I know this is an old thread, just curious if your still happy with your “engine world” motor, I’m shopping for one and they are half the price, but only a 6 month warranty.

    Too many to list
I've used engine world for my Acura when I had it. No issues at all with the motor. They even delivered it to shop for no charge. Nest 650.00 for a motor. Coworkers have used them too with no issues.

The lower end on these engines are unbelievable strong,
It’s the top end that has problems and usually from an over heated situation at one time because it has aluminum heads that don’t handle heat well

My motor popped a head gasket at 480,000,

The bottom end was still in great condition.
    Zero oil burning
I would fix the top end because your still on the lower end mileage for a 3.4 and you know the condition of the bottom end now,

Unless you find an engine in a wrecked truck 100k miles or less that you can do a carfax and hear running for under 1500.00
