Hi guys.. I've got a 1995 Tacoma 3.4L. It sat for quite a few months while I painted the frame and the entire truck. When I got it back on the road I discovered that between 3500 and 4000 RPM the truck sputters or acts like it's misfiring. I have changed the plugs, wires, ignition coils, MAF sensor and fuel filter. From what I've read here on TW I thought for sure the ignition coils or the MAF sensor would have solved my problem. Unfortunately nothing changed . I should mention I have a K&N air filter and when put on the OBD2 the error code comes up as the MAF sensor and the Air temperature sensor. I have completely run out of ideas. I'm desperate. Please! If you guys have any other suggestions that would be great!
    Thanks everyone!
    Cheers

Is the new MAF a aftermarket unit? If you have the OEM MAF, I would put that back on. Make sure all the hose clamps are tight.

Hi arries.. thanks for the reply. The MAF is OEM from a parts truck I have. The parts truck ran perfectly fine with no issues before I pulled the motor. So I don't think that could be my problem.
The frame was bad on it but it drove fine. I originally bought it for the box and a few other things.
I've tried cleaning both sensors (the original one and the one from the parts truck) with MAF sensor cleaner. It made no difference.
    Thanks again for the reply.
    Cheers

If you have a known good MAF, and you are still getting MAF error codes, then you need to really check the wiring. I think the air temp sensor is integral to the MAF sensor as well. Make sure the wiring is not damaged anywhere back to the fire wall. If you have a volt meter, you could verify you are seeing a +5V signal and good ground at the connector. Since you had the engine out - is the engine properly grounded to the chassis (factory ground strap)? Make sure those connections are tight and clean to bare metal.

Does it clear up after 4k rpm?

So the engine I pulled came from the parts truck. I didn't put it in my '95. I just have it in the garage as a spare. That's where the MAF came from. I didn't swap the engine. Yes I think you are right the air temp sensor is integrated in the first gens. I'll check the voltage. Thanks!
No Nessal. It doesnt clear up after 4k RPM. It shudders and loses all power. Acting like a misfire or so I thought.
I'll keep digging. Thanks for the feedback

Sounds like maybe it's a fueling issue.
