Aloha... I have a stock '91 Toyota Pickup xtracab 4x4 5spd Standard Trans... the stock 3.0L blew. I'm looking into swaping in the 5VZ-FE 3.4 from the '95 to '02 Tacoma. I was told it bolts right in. I am suspicious that it is not that easy. What are things that I need to do, know and/or chance/replace to make this motor operate properly in my truck? I appreciate everyone taking the time to help me! Thank you and look forward to your educating responses!

At one time I was considering buying an early 90's truck like yours. I read up on the conversion to 3.4, but no personal experience. It kinda bolts in, but the wiring is different, the fuel and exhaust systems are on opposite sides of the truck, and several other details need to be dealt with. I would check these guys out: http://www.offroadsolutions.com/ Good luck!

There is a great subsection dedicated to the 5VZ-FE swap at yotatech.com

I have done a few 3.4 swaps just using available info from yotatech. There are a bunch of wiring diagrams in the swap forum from various years so that you can build the conversion harness. Get your self a notebook and write it all down. I created tables of what connectors and pins I had in my truck and then the same for the donor harness.

Anyone got specific links or key search words I should use on the Yotatec site?... I've tried filtering threw 3.4 swaps... searching 5vz I've found some information such as the body needs to be lifted 2 inches and the exhaust needs to be relocated along with the battery.... looking for a "must change/buy" list... I'm sure I have to buy more than a engine ECU and wiring harness..... thanks in advance!

It all depends just where your strong skills are .

The only way I do this is to have the Toyota EWD`s of the donor engine and the truck .

The ECM has 4 plugs the engine harness has 3 you need to source the 4th plug either new or from the donor harness

Don`t forget the OBII plug as well

Each swap is different and we all forget dumb little things

Like using the 3.0 oil pan

It also depends you don`t need to build a fancy cross over pipe you can run the exhaust underneath

Air intake and battery need to be swapped

    I have a 92 4Runner with a 3.4 that was a basket case when I bought it

Join Yotatech The 3.4 swap section is well worth reading then when you have some ideas ask your questions

All the above info is correct. One that i know about too is hood clearance can be a bit of an issue as the 5vzfe is taller then the 3vz.

YotaTech will be your bible for the next few weeks. Start reading. Lots of wiring to figure out.

Remains to be seen I bought the tires and wheels the rest came along
6 year old thread I have not seen them around.

Just what plugs are you talking about you need to narrow things down.
