After steam cleaning, this thing looks pretty close to brand new.

Spray some oil on the cylinder walls, valley, and all of the crank/bearing area

That's all she wrote for today. Tomorrow or Weds will be head teardown/cleaning, and after that we are home free, ready for rebuild. Only bolts I'm really worried about replacing are the main bolts. H\Aftermarket head bolts for the amount of boost I'll be running are too expensive IMO, just not worth it.

    Dirty dirty dirty head

Look at the nastiness! Using the POS bearing (off of some motor in the shop) to hold the valve heads so I could get the keepers off.

Now this is only for the brave of heart, but more importantly, STEADY OF HAND. Since the valve head is stopped by the bearing, push down on the valve retainer to gain access to the keepers. Don't slip and scratch the walls, that fit is critical.

Since you are doing this with a friend (you'd have to be an idiot to do this alone), have them use a small magnet to grab the keepers.

Glass bead blasted intake & exhaust valves. Remember your intakes are typically stainless, exhaust usually some kind of hardened alloy. Inconel in this case I think. Pretty much brand new. Can you guess which is the old one??

Where they currently sit, patiently awaiting assembly. BTW, I've owned a lot of power tools over the years, and the Milwaukee Fuel line takes the cake hands down. I've got a ton of their 12V & 18V Fuel stuff, they constantly get me out of crappy situation. That 3/8" impact is BADASS for the size.

Shims & keepers, waiting for their solvent bath prior to reassembly.

Santa Barbara represent. Hands down the worst drinking experience of my life occurred at UCSB back in '06. I was on leave from Coronado, went up to UCSB since one of our guys knew some lady friends up there. Long story short, wound up blackout drunk on Captain Morgan Tattoo, ran away from friends, they found me sometime around 0330 in a sorority house playing strip Sorry (not really sure how that works) with handful of coeds.

This would normally be an awesome situation, however, due to blackoutness and lack of functioning brain cells, I managed to forget that my then girlfriend (now wife & mother of my children) was about 1500 miles east acting like a responsible adult. While my friends still enjoy telling that story, the spouse gets a very specific look on her face when it comes up.

And that's all I've got to say about that.

What kind of fuel management are you planning?

The only fuel management I'll ever need is my right foot.

F/IC-6 for now. I have to go the piggyback route because I don't have $1500+ to spend on a standalone ECU at the moment. If I didn't basically rebuild the entire front end of the truck that would have been a possibility, but it wasn't meant to be.
