When I first opened the picture, I thought I was looking at my engine. So much alike. This is cool. I see you like DEI cool products as well. You've got some kind of a high-end battery there.

Oh and another detail in common, lol. We both have enhanced the engine to firewall grounding cables with heavier gauge.

We've got a movement going with red valve covers. Let's see how many more go red in the next year. :)

should i get (or attempt) this deep into my engine, i may do a bright blue metallic in remembrance of my first reg cab toyota pickup color of 1/4 century ago
it will probably be ok to do that in black engine compartment, aiming for total badass form on potential 'unicorn' they told me

It's up to you. I think we are all safe here in Taco land. I haven't seen any leopard print hydro dipped valve covers on a Taco yet.

I just replaced mine about 3 weeks ago. If nobody else has recommended it, I would buy and replace the half moons and the cam seals at the same time. Get some Toyota brand sealer. Very little extra work and both have the potential to leak right on top of the exhaust manifold on the passenger side. Ask me how I know...:annoyed:

I also did my PCV valve and grommet. Good ones to also put in the freezer the day before.

Thanks for the extra effort on all of those links. Very cool.
Right now this oil leak never leaves a drop of oil on the ground, but the smoke and smell coming out of the hood gaps after getting off the freeway drives me nuts. Passenger side. The fairly clean chassis is also now showing a fresh coat of oil too. Automatic reapplying anti rust treatment. Lol.

The cam shaft half moon plugs are aluminum and don't need replaced unless you break the edge off them when removing like I did with one. Also no need to freeze those. Just clean the old goop off them using a small flat blade screw driver for a scraper to get into the grooves. When reinstalling, you goop them up good again and they drop into place.

Looks clean to me. Good job. I don't know why but I've never had a clean engine bay on my trucks but always clean car and boat engine bays. Lol. Is that a cover over the throttle cable? Why?

I can see doing that for the throttle cable and a couple other cables on the driver side that hang kinda low. The exhaust is right there so my guess is that they are heat shielding to protect the cables. Not absolutely necessary but it doesn't hurt either.

When I look back over the years at vehicles I've owned and the reason I traded them off, it makes me sad to realize that it was all from leaking valve covers. There were a couple that would leak after a few years, so I just traded them off. I just did not want to deal with it. I grew up working on cars and could have easily made the repairs. Though I didn't start working on them again until 10 years ago when my sons were teenagers and I wanted to help them to get some experience.

Love DEI products, battery is a Odyssey pc 1500r, works great I like it. The ground cables I make myself with JL audio 4awg marine copper, soldered and crimped + heat shrink. I actually have the big 5 upgrade with 0 awg from alt to battery and grounds, with a 4 awg starter wire too, this bisch turns over fast.:D

Yah it’s a space blanket fur my shift cable, lol. I don’t really need it but I do run headers so they put off heat in stop and go traffic, and I need protection, I am also like a raven I love shiny shit. I also do this to my oil cooler lines that come incredibly close to the drivers side header.

I would like to make the big 5 ground upgrade. I have that on another vehicle that is prone to grounding issues. It made a difference. In that club, we had a member that made and sold the kits. It would be great to see how this has been done.

I’ll post a how to for making cables on the cheap, It will blow you’re minds how easy it is and reliable forever. I suggest doing it with welding cable if money is tight, just not as fine of stranded copper, as what I use.:burp:

I wrapped the knock sensor harness in DEI cool tape, then surrounded it in high temp flex conduit and wrapped it again in silicone tape. I think that KS harness would survive more than it would ever see in the 3.4L.
