Why don't you just wait an extra second or two after selecting D before releasing the brake? Hesitation will be gone.

We all know the auto transmission is garbage, I think OP wants to know about the engine itself.

Well that would be one approach, but when I buy a top of the line vehicle I expect top of the line performance and the fact that this trans mission should not be doing this I don't suspect it is going to improve over time I want the dealer to make every effort to correct it under warranty, Does your 2016 OR have the same Problem? The TRD Sport and the OR have the same transmission .

I also had several Tundras before the 3d gen Tacoma. The first two (03', 05') had the 5.7L and the 12' had the 4.6L. The 4.6L was not what I ordered but when it came in they gave me a great deal as it was a loaded TRD and would be harder to sell with that engine. At first it was a little irritating as the 4.6L shifted a lot especially in cruise control. But, then it settled down (and I got use to it) and it gave me 4 years of excellent service. Mileage was not all that great (13/14 city and 18/19 hwy) but it rode as smooth as my wife's Lexus. But, it was a little too big for me (much bigger than the 03' and 05') and it was harder to park and get in my garage. My point is I think the 4.6L was also a relatively new engine for the Tundra but had been in other models for several years. So far, after 5K, I am very please with the engine and transmission in my 16' Tacoma. Did have the transmission checked at 3.5K and it was 1 quart low. Rear window seal was also changed at the same time. Otherwise, no issues with the Tacoma..i.e..vibrating hood, trip module resets, shifting problems, etc. as many other forum members are reporting. This is also the first time I have bought a first year model change so I am keeping my fingers crossed that it holds up as well as it has so far. (Made 11/15 in TX).

Note: IMO the 00' to 06' 5.7L Tundras were the best trucks Toyota ever made. Not too big, ran like the wind, and towed good sized loads with no problems.

What's this WE stuff? Mine has been operating just fine.

So it's different from the previous generation but it operates just fine once you learn where the sweet spots are.

My point is that there shouldn't be a hesitation. No hesitation on my 2nd gen or the other cars I've owned.

When it's cold, go from reverse to drive, hold the brake (one or two seconds) until you feel it engage then go, what's so hard about that. It's what I've had to do on my two 1st gens, my wife's Chevy and I do it on my 3rd gen, never slips.

Recommend he tries it with his truck and sees how it goes.

Good for you TacoMike...... maybe you're doing what I said without realizing it.

Do you mean 4.7L? It did have a lexus based engine.

Also, 18/19 hwy is decent for a 300hp v8 full size pickup truck. my lexus gs350 struggles to get 24mpg.

Someone posted some pretty high mileage on their truck, but I can't find the post. Even if someone is driving 10k miles a month, it's still going to be 2-3 years before you'll know if the engine is going to hold up to that kind of mileage.

I'm confident this truck will outlast me. So like a number of other things going on in MY lifetime, I don't plan to see the failure of the truck either.

I'm curious as to why everyone is calling this V6 a high revving engine. Mine spends most of the time at or under 2k on the highway. Rarely ever need to get over 3k to keep up with accelerating traffic. 6k rev limit is not high at all, even my 5.6 Titan had a higher redline. Yes, the torque curve is SLIGHTLY higher in the rpm range, but doesn't mean that you need to rev it up to get moving. I've owned an 04, 08, and the 2016 Tacoma. This new one does whatever I need it to without getting heavy on the throttle.

    No...according to the paperwork my 2012 Tundra had a 4.6L V8, hp=310 @ 5600 rpm, torque = 327 lbs.-ft. @ 3400 rpm

I was quite surprised of the lack of power the 16' had when I test drove them and this is coming from my 12' DCLB 4x4 with 34's and heavy SnugTop. Toyota claims more HP but I'm not buying that. I'm honestly a bit bummed they didn't do a 100% remodel like from 1st to 2nd gen. From a side profile, they're not that much different. As for eating the 2nd gen for breakfast, it's because that massive 3rd gen grill can eat the entire buffet:puke:They do look much better once they're lifted though, especially Toytec's mag grey DCSB, but that weaker motor has got to feel even more underpowered with 33"+ tires. :turtleride:
