Covered in stickers and chrome stick-ons for extra horse torques and foot powers. Icon sticker gets me tons of travel, dozens of milimeters.
They just discontinued the TRD supercharger for the 4L which could have been a sign about dialing out the 4L as a whole...

Or Toyota, more likely, doesn't want to deal with warrantied boost.

I believe they are getting away from superchargers. Turbos are much more reliable and efficient.

Based on the numbers given the transmission could be one of two transmission types. One has an input torque of about 350 ft. lb. the other is much higher around 600 ft. lb. Need the other set of numbers to know for sure. It may say something like AWR6B45, TB-61SN or TB-68LS. The last one is the high torque model capable of near or over 600 ft. lb.

I don't see why they wouldn't. If a bunch of other big players are diving into the boosted world they would have to play at some point. The writing is on the wall. Sure maybe not a badass motor with gobs of boost and forged internals to keep it toyota reliable but at least something. The gen 2 tundra was a great sign that toyota was serious about the American truck market and now that's shifting again. I say small boosted motors and diesels in both trucks in the next ten years tops.

My logic tells me Toyota won't do this unless sales numbers begin to slip. They have no reason to do it at the moment, the Tacoma is killing it, sales wise anyway.

I hate to say it but no way Toyota throws a 3.5 L turbo engine in the Tacoma. It has nothing to do with whether or not Toyota will turbo the 3.5 L, I'm sure they could and may. However a 3.5 L Turbo is pushing 400 HP/400 ftlbs of torque and Toyota would not stick that in the Tacoma. Period.

You may someday see a turbo.

But it will be on a smaller low compression engine, a small diesel, or something of that ilk.

It's purpose won't be racy, it will be efficiency, and it will be because they figure out how to package it cheaper than a similar powered non turbo engine.

No one really 'breaks' a stock ECU today, so for the tweakers, they'll have to hope for aftermarket break thoughs in engine management before altering boost levels will be possible or safe to manage. At a big $ number. And it's unlikely the driveline will support big gains. You don't even get proper leafs today, and axle wrap is a long standing issue on our little puddle jumpers.

Yea, Toyota has a place at the race tracks, and I suppose for some that translates to some sales. But this ain't the 60's where win on Sunday means sales on Monday, because you were getting big muscle that at least was similar to what you saw on TV.

I've had some affiliation with the automotive supply chain over the years, and I've never seen a shop foreman who had a valid rumor before it was pretty much common knowledge in the rest of the market. I mean it's not like the OE has them on a mailing list or something.

Toyota has backed away from street performance for a good while. Death of the Supra & MR2, replaced with a F&F looking FWD Celica. Meh. Even the FRS/BRZ twins are built as coupe Miata competitors with great handling, not great power.

I don't think a Turbo is really what this engine needs anyways. Honestly, the engine makes plenty of power.... low end torque is what it's missing. A Supercharger would be a better solution for that.

A good tune is all it needs. They have it tunes from the factory to not want to rev and stay below 2500rpm. That and a slightly looser torque converter would really wake it up

I come from the performance GM LS world. A tune really wakes them up without changing any parts. I wish someone could crack Toyota code
