That's the part that sounds great! Jeep has the battery down low (for good weight distribution), but its low enough that it would be mostly submerged if you are up to your axles in water or mud. I guess its sealed, but hmmmm. I assume Jeep thought it through, so I'll probably be proved wrong, but I'm not going to be the first to buy it ;)

Gotcha! Yeah I'm not gonna be the guinea pig either!! Especially not with Fiat/Chrysler at the helm. It would be kinda funny to see one of those doing a bunch of off-road stuff only to get up to the rocker panels in water and get totally fried

Right? Or what happens if you come down hard on a rock and just hammer that battery? If you were Wiley E. Coyote your Jeep would explode and you'd be sitting in the rocks, smoldering, with smoke coming off your head.

highly doubt we'll see a turbo. nor would I want one. rather a supercharger as they are more reliable

why would a supercharger be more reliable? Turbo technology has come a long ways and are just as reliable as superchargers and build boost just as fast.

except for OVtune confirming that hes working with another shop local to him to come up with a turbo kit for the third gen in the OVTune M/T development thread. I wouldnt discount a turbocharger so fast. Just use braided stainless steel tubing everywhere and it will be just as reliable as any boosted motor

    no very simple.
the taco is my first non boosted vehicle

I love turbos but for overlanding/camping etc no thanks.
They're so fuckin expensive to replace when they go and when they go its not driveable.

Superchargers are a bit more reliable so rather have them.
BUt regardless no thanks for any. I'm fine with my truck the way it is and the most I'd need is regear. I'm not racing so no need for that much power nor am I towing.

And since I'm doing that I want reliability

the bearings wear out and when they go its bad.

the lag isn't an issue to me its the fact when they go they often take out O2 sensors with it, you'll also have an oil leak and coolant leak after.

like I said to another above, I've had turbos including a supra. When they fail its not cheap, and they do fail. Never had one go more than 140k km. Look at the new eco boost fords. Constant turbo issues and like a $8000+ job.

For racing and anything performance sure I'll take that over a supercharger any day. But for wheeling I'm fine with N/A.

I like the idea of a turbo and more power but adding one would just bring down reliabilty. (More moving parts to fail)

Guys it is 2017. Probably a solid 40-50% of all STOCK cars out there come with at least one turbo and a LOT of cars come stock with twin turbos. Reliability of turbos is basically a non issue now, and the build quality of stock engines has come a LONG way as well. The Tacoma's engine has gotten some pretty serious internal upgrades over the years and at this point its pretty much built for boost

Turbos are not reliable in mud, water and dirt.

Forget the turbos and make it a KERS system. Energy recovery from braking, capacitor stored, returned to an electric motor mounted to the transmission. Ok maybe turbo too. Why not? Probably only cost $70-$100,000 per unit.

Looking at the pathetic amount of HP increase the old Tacoma & Tundra got from the TRD supercharger, I’d say a TRD supercharger for the 3.5 would probably be a total waste of time and development money.

Yet THE most reliable off-road vehicles are turbo diesel?

Pathetic?? I had an '09 Gen 2 with the TRD supercharger. As I remember the truck had 236hp stock and went to ~305 with the supercharger...
