Nah, there's enough good ol boys shops around... Basically if it'll clear the OBD2 check, we don't care what's under there lol

Another broken ACIS. Three weeks ago I started misfiring on 5, then 1 and 3 with random misfire codes as well. Tried plugs and coils. Replaced the camshaft position sensors on the passenger side and the misfires immediately stopped. Yesterday I started misfiring on 3 again at high rpm. Double checked the plug and coil and lp fuel injector. Nothing. Pulled the intake to check the hp injector and heard the valve bouncing around in there. Never did find the bushing though, can only imagine where that went. I removed the valve and drove the truck around, seems fine without it. Ordering another manifold but I wonder how much difference it actually makes.

Amazon has cheap flexiable cameras. I would look at the valves while replacing the manifold.

I have a scope and checked them, nada. My hope is that it dropped out when I pulled the manifold.

More than likely, the bushing stayed in the manifold itself. You can always cut apart the old one, and check that way...or run a bore scope into the old one and try to see it that way.

You can actually see the tops of the valves in the lower intake with just a good flashlight. They aren't far down the runner, and it a pretty straight port to the valve.

Exactly what we did today, and there was the bushing on top of the intake valve that kept giving us the P0305 error. New Plenum at $643 should be a "no charge" replace from Toyota!

Well I mean..... Why would Toyota give you a free replacement? Yes it's crappy design, but you're well out of warranty.

Its an obvious design flaw that could be catastrophic..... They have extended replacements on less.

Why would Toyota give you a free replacement???? Your question is The Problem.

Something like their multiple BILLION dollar profits each year? Seriously?

Vs their multiple Billions in debt and expenses.

It's a business. They didn't get to be number one by handing out freebies to everyone.

The unfortunate reality is the fact that this thread and this forum is a sounding board for enthusiasts and people who check stuff religiously and people who are more aware of issues with their vehicles. But you have to remember a problem for every forum member who signed up, there are thousands of taco owners who aren't on the forum. And for every four member who has one of these issues. There's probably a thousand who don't. Multiply that accordingly. And you've got a million taco owners with zero issues related to this. Let's be honest closer to 2 million since that's about where the production numbers are for the third gen. Well, this thread does make it seem like there are a ton of these failures. That's only because this is the thread for this type of failure. All that absolutely sucks. Donkey crack that it happened to the 30 or 40 or 50 people who are sounding off in here... 30 or 40 or 50 tacos versus nearly 2 million made... Not enough for Toyota to notice or care. And if it's not documented through a dealer Toyota won't notice or care.

And especially when problems like this crop up. Well after the warranty.... No one is obligated to replace anything. Or to take note of anything. In the ideal world they would. But in the real world they spent the last three or four years designing stuff for the fourth gen and not really paying attention to this sort of thing. Because let's be honest, the bugs in the third gen have been worked out. No vehicle is perfect.

Gross Revenue - Expenses - Debt = Profit

Billions in Profit. Defects that could be financially offset. Enhancing your position in the market.

    It's a Business.

This is like saying only 2% of people die from this medication, but it's going to make you feel better. Just take it.

You also have to factor in the hundreds or thousands of people that are not on Tacomaworld and have this issue. You cannot quantify what percentage or how many millions of people do or don't have this issue. You don't have a clue, because it's impossible to count. Only Toyota knows, and they damn sure aren't going to release that information.

I'm curious why this ACIS flap shaft seems to be shearing regularly on third gens, but not on 2nd gens? What changed in the design?

Again, how would Toyota have the data? There isn't a secret black box on your truck that tells them when something breaks. This would have to be documented at a dealer and I can tell you being at a dealer we have access to information from everyone. They're just aren't enough of these failures to justify Toyota doing a new r&D on the intake plenum. I don't like the current design. I don't like the fact that it has failures but at the end of the day compromises are made in car design and not everything's going to be perfect. The fact that this hasn't been a catastrophic failure means it was "good enough" and the failure rate is so low that even when they do fail at nearly 100,000 miles like yours, it's not enough for them to warrant a recall or redesign.

Maybe enough of them will failure that they will do a retroactive Recall. That's happened before and it'll probably happen again. Cars have like a million moving parts. You can't get everything right the first time out the door.

That's insane, that's exactly where mine was too...but the rubber part was already gone on mine. Consumed and burned up by the engine most likely.
