I just traded in my 2012 4.0 V6 Rav4 sport for a 17 SR5 with lots of extras (would have gotten a TRD, but got running boards, Tonneau cover, locking tailgate, etc included)... anyway loved the power of the 4.0 V6 but am getting better street mileage on the 3.5 Atkinson (18-19 vs 16 on the Rav). Yes, have to press a bit to get it to kick into high gear, but no complaints here !

    Rav4 never had the 4.0, it had a 3.5

This is true. W/ that said..the 3.5 in the Rav was amazing. Always wondered why that engine isn't in the tacoma. My wife had a Rav4 V6 and it was a rocket ship.

The 3.5 in the 3rd gen Tacoma makes more HP and torque. The Rav4 really benefited just because it's a fairly light vehicle compared to the Tacoma.

$5 says he meant 4 runner. A Rav 4 only getting 16mpg would be very suprising.

My mistake, it was a 3.5 in the Rav4 Sport... but point is I was surprised with better gas mileage in the SR5 bcuz Rav4 so much smaller and lighter... not to mention the ride in the Tacoma is so much smoother !
