In the Tundra next year likely and the Tacoma in '24 or '25
Another thing I read about is an petrol engine with diesel like performance which comes from Mazda technology.

HCC High compression combustion, Mazdas been working on it for a while now. Pretty cool tech

***Edit*** They now call it spark-controlled compression-ignition. Haven't research it in a while. Pretty cool nonetheless

I think the next Generation gasoline engines for Toyota are called Dynamic Force, l recall reading something about them a few months ago.

That makes sense. There’s definitely a time and place for a full size and times where a full size is overkill. Your reasons are the exact same reasons why I own a Taco myself.

I think everyone here knows the 3rd Gen has a car motor in it lol. It’s too bad Toyota put “Seatbelt Mike” in charge of the 3rd Gen design. I miss being able to say my (old) vehicle (1999 4Runner) was partially designed by Hino.

Why would a bigger truck necessitate a bigger trailer?

I’ve had two of each of those gens. There are pros/cons to each gen. The 2016 was a beta test. Maybe alpha quality.

If I would have been paying closer attention, I would have purchased a 2015 4x4 OR. But I was still driving a 2013 that got hit right about the time the 2015 went out of production and evaporated off dealer lots.

A lot has happened since then. I am happy Toyota made some changes I wanted. So far, the 2021 seems solid.

    2 things.
First, most people don't understand anecdotal evidence.
And 2, for all the tiny chest thumping going on here from 4 liter owners, if you want the real scoop, Google some threads from say 2014 and read up on all the complaints about the 4.0 and pulling. Only once there was a new truck and new motor did the old one get elevated to ledgendary status.

I've owned both. Neither is or was perfect.

My 18 has been solid as well and Im not easy on her. I dont have any of the "TW" issues, well maybe except the fuel pump that was replaced last monday. It worked fine by the way. I know a guy personally with 17 sport and he takes it offroad all the time and its been rock solid, he has 60k miles.

To me it seems like 3rd gen is "improved" 2nd gen. Stronger frame, better tech, more powerful and efficient engine, more comfortable, higher off the ground stock, nicer interior, looks better, and the truck is safer. Im sure im missing some things.

Hopefully my 3rd gen will last me for at least 10-15 years, we will find out.:)

Hi All, just remembered that I started this yesterday.....interesting opinions. I'm looking forward to my new ride soon. I'm coming from a 5.7 Ram, it's just too much truck for my needs now as I sold my boat and I dont haul 6 foot teenage hockey players around anymore. I love the Hemi, but it's time to get back into a Tacoma.

Maybe with the $$ I save with fewer repairs I will get a Challenger for my Hemi fix....lol

You can thank CAFE regulations for that! Have you seen how many Tacomas are on the road now? It’s the new Camry so they needed to put in a more economical engine. And that trend continues. It still does what most of these people want (haul an RTT and spotless farm jack) which is reflected in the positive feedback you see here about the 3.5L. It’s marketed as an aesthetic choice now, at most hauling light sports equipment. Just like in the commercials.

    - ICON UCAs, BP51/Kings, SCS wheels, 285s, Leer 100XR canopy. Greenlane aluminum winch bumper, Smittybilt X20 winch. Trying Falken AT3w now, Really like BF KO2s.
I don’t have a problem with 3Gs, lots of cool builds.
I’ll stand up for the 4.0 - I get 17mpg or better combined with 285s, 2inch lift, Leer Canopy. Sure I could spend 50G CDN to get 2 or 3 mpg better.
When the 3G guys stop making OV tune rich, and the threads stop about hating cruise control or transmission shift points I may consider trading my truck in. It does sound like the 2021 is better than the previous 3G years.

I haul heavy stuff, use my truck as a truck all the time and dont have RTT or a farm jack. My truck performs beautifully. I appreciate good mpgs for a heavy truck with good ground clearance.

    I don't understand your comment.

Completely stock 2015 Xrunner 4.0 with trd supercharger I was getting 15-16mpg. Now with 2.7 pulley, full bolt ons, lighten flywheel, and a tune. I’m getting 19mpg with driving hard. Driving good? Idk what that is... my truck is built to have fun lol. I feel bad for all the stockers out there

I suppose that is like asking why I need a big truck to haul a medium trailer. Right now my Tacoma towing capacity matches my 7000 lb trailer capacity.
If I had a Tundra that could tow 10,000 lbs... well why not? When I weigh it out, it's only 30% more capacity, so why bother with the huge expense to get there.
