Just got off the phone with Magnuson sales and was informed that a supercharger for the 16+ Tacoma 3.5L was in the works and should be released mid 2018. No pricing or output specs were available for release at this time.

It took several years for them to get their previous superchargers CARB certified but that may have been because TRD was offering them with the certification. At any rate, none of you guys with 3rd gens in CA have to worry about getting smogged for another 10 years so just buy it and hope they get the certification before then, lol.

Are they? I thought it was 10 but I could be wrong. Either way, 5 years is a long time to enjoy it before you have to worry about smog. I'm sure it would be CARB by then, if not immediately. Its an expensive cert to get but surely there's enough demand in those states, even CA alone

This is good news - this motor would be great with some light boost.

More than likely it will be. Their other super chargers are all carb approved including the new 4runner super charger. More than likely they started the process way back in development and was designed around CA strict rules to the dismay of the rest of the country.

Let's just end the speculation right here.

Which other chargers have CARB exemptions?
That's right, ONLY the ones they produced for TRD...of which Toyota got them carb certified.
When TRD shuttered the program, all they had to do(since they were already producing them) was transfer the certification that was already in place so they could continue to produce them.
Think transferring a liquor license vs. getting a new one.

I haven't seen any info on the 2010-up 4.0l charger, but if it indeed has a CARB exemption, that would be a good sign. If it doesn't, than I doubt any others they produce will be either.

And the smog exemption in California is the first 4 years.

I just learned recently that there are several counties in CA that are exempt to smog regulations, Humboldt and Mendocino are a couple of them. If your truck is registered there you only have to smog it before selling it.

It's tempting for me to register there because some of my supercharger fuel mods aren't CARB approved (7th injector kit).

Their jeep super chargers all have a carb EO number. Their Chevy super chargers all have EO numbers and their mustang super charger is also carb legal. Feel free to dig through their website and look at each one. A local Toyota dealership just put one on a new 4runner a few weeks ago. It is speculation but with fact behind it. It's more than likely will be especially since a lot of states are adopting CA emissions standards and also are starting to require Carb certification.

What would be the group price to put a box small block in this thing, I might sign up for that. The 70s chevy straight 6 bolted up nicely to the 71 Land Cruiser.

Has Toyota ever put a straight 6 in a Tacoma, maybe too much beer, but I am thinking ....perfect!

Unfortunately I don't think Toyota is worried about doing anything to the Tacoma right now because their sales are head and neck above the rest..... We'll see what happens when the RR comes out but I doubt it'll do very well. I personally think it's the ugliest of the midsize pickups out there but that's just me.

You also gotta remember that we are a tiny minority group of total Tacoma owners. What we want out of a truck is not what the majority of the market wants.
