 You are correct: 2-shaft Gas Turbine APU manufactured by Pratt & Whitney Canada for the A380. Pratt & Whitney also provided a Turbofan APU for the Boeing 747. Honeywell supplies the APU on the Boeing 777. However: rumor has it on verified authority that the Toyota 2TR-FE 2.7L is/was the standard supplied equipment APU for the plane featured in Top Gun: Maverick...because it never breaks down and you can't kill it.(As proven on "Top Gear")

Note: Boeing just delivered the last 747 (N863GT) in 55 years of production on February 1st. It is a 747-8F freighter: the 1,574th airplane manufactured.

The 3.5l timing leak is totally preventable, assuming (with a very high probability) it was assembled and torqued in the correct sequence at the factory.
The problem is the longer OCI, air filter and no PCV valve replacement recommendation at all, that was standard in the past.

My current 3.5L is seven years old, and there’s not a stain, let alone a seep or leak with over 75k. Valve covers, cam covers, entire motor is the same way, all dry, and it’s due to maintenance.

I’ve had a 4.0L with 13ys 200k dry as an old bone, same family/design as the 3.5. I have another one still running like new at 10 yrs, no seeps or leaks anywhere. And normally by this time, the average engine shows at least a stain, so it’s not luck. I change my oil every 5k miles, filters and PCV valve every 20k or yearly which ever comes first, no issues.

To me, it's worth the maintenance, for others, not so much, they don't keep them long.

Have a 4.0 in the FJ
    Changed oil at 500
Again at 2500, then changed every 3k-5k max
    115k, doesn’t leak or consume a drop
    Oil changes with Mobil 1

Plan on doing the same with my new Tacoma when it arrives in late march

I had a 4.7 tundra with over 290k miles doing oil changes every 15k miles, or more with mobil1, and their filters. I think I replaced the air filter every 50k miles with wix filters. That engine was dusty dirty, but not a single weep of oil, or coolant anywhere. That truck is still being driven by another owner today. This stuff about oil changes, and leaks is bs.

You also have the manual transmission which has a better gear ratio. 4.3 I believe. Makes a big difference. There’s a reason a lot of guys with the automatic gear swap when they lift and do bigger tires.

Ummmmm: Help me out here. Re: "3rd Gen": 3rd gen what ??? Which brand/make/company are you talking about here? "Motors going out" Yugo?/Fiat?/1970's Ramblers/Ford Pinto/Chevy Chevette/Vega??? Maybe it's the windshield-washer motor that's going out every week.

No wait: Almost forgot: Anything made by Renault ? I'm confused: I don't think I have ever seen a post here titled: 3rd gen: motor out, electrical failure, "leakage up top"... new guy another 100K motor gone...."

Plenty have gotten the leak with 5k OCI

Our fleet trucks at work are a mix of 17 and 18 3.5 tacomas. 10-15k oil changes with cheapo synthetic. No one's is leaking yet. Some are over 100k.

Toyota is well aware of this issue and I would bet they know exactly why. They may never tell us but if it was as simple and an OCI and or PCV valve issue, they would make a correction.

That may be true, and I reiterate, "The 3.5l timing leak is totally preventable, assuming (with a very high probability) it was assembled and torqued in the correct sequence at the factory."

I get that's your opinion, but I disagree. After being a service manager for 10 plus years, I have never seen a clogged PCV or 10k OCI cause the timing cover to leak on a Toyota or any other brand.

Without knowing 100% I wouldn't be telling everyone on here that its preventable when you really don't know if that's true or not.
