    Stock... For now...
I just picked my manual Tacoma up from the dealer today. On the way home I went to pass a vehicle in the left lane and gave it a bit of gas. Right around that 3500 rpm mark you guys are talking about the truck just took off. It was awesome! Now I know where the power is! Hope you guys are still enjoying your manual transmissions!

Do any of you guys start in second when taking off quickly to eliminate a shift from 1st to 2nd?

Sounds like its just the power curve of the engine...

As for the other thing... it is commonly referred to as "rev hang". Read this.

TLDR: rev hang is real. they do it on purpose for emission reasons. fixing it requires altering the ECM.

I guess this "rev hang" is what I am feeling too. When I let off the accelerator coming to a stop it feels as if the Truck rpms do not drop enough. Almost feels like it's pushing back against my braking. ...after a second it will finally drop the rpms to a proper engine ldle speed.

    Intake, exhaust, lift. Typical stuff.
That's not it. The timing on the 3.5 is continuous so you won't have any spikes of falls due to the valve timing. The torque dip is due to the intake manifold runner design.
