    I'm guessing between 6500-7000. Peak HP for the 3.3 is 290 @ 6500rpm.

I think specter208 misspoke and meant at peak, not at redline. The 290 hp peak is at 6500 rpm. I can't find any info on redline. (I would assume 7000, but who knows.)

    6500 rpm is basically redline.

Really? Odd. I'm not used to engines hitting peak HP right at redline. Usually it's a few hundred to a thousand before. Even the peaky 2.0 liter S2000 engine hits peak power 700 rpm before redline.

    6500rpm is not literally redline.

Assuming this is the motor for the new ranger, the gm twins and Tacoma also hit their peak hp at redline. Not sure where Nissan is at.

Probably going to have an H.O. version of the 2.7 eco, the 3.3 just isn't enough for that application.

My guess would be the 2.3 Eco, but since the 2.7 Eco is already available in the F150 that is a good possibility too, plus it has 375 Ft Lbs at 3000 RPMs

I don't think Ford would gamble with a turbo 4 in their newest off road oriented vehicle, maybe in a lower level, but not the Raptor. The 2.3 is great in the Focus RS and Mustang but its made to rev high. Probably going to be the 2.7 with the 10 spd. The 10 spd is unbeatably smooth. I also want to test an 18' with the 2.7 and 10 spd because its awesome in my Lariat.
If were throwing maybes out there, I want a Ranger with the 1L eco and let me tune it

I lived in Alaska and have done exactly what you're talking about... with a 4 cylinder. Use 4lo and problem solved.

I havent driven the 4.0 just the new 3.5. Its a nice engine so far, no race car or power house but it seems to handle its own... i still think it should be getting better mileage given the hp & torque. I get the same mileage as the ford v8 and ill give you one guess which powertrain has more torque and hp....

the 4.0 is like the 3.5 if you only kept it above 3000 rpm. But the 4.0 ran out of steam on the top end where the 3.5 keeps pulling to redline (not ideal for a truck). The 4.0 got worse gas mileage too by around 10 - 15% and made me wonder why even make it when the 4.7L v8 got almost the same mpg but with much more torque.

True. I get a pretty consistent 16mpg, but I do mostly drive city with little highway time.

    The Frontier 4.0L peaks well before it's 6250rpm redline. 261hp@5600rpm, 281lbft at 4000rpm.

If you still need a torquey engine for truck applications and don't care about Mpg's, the Frontier is a good choice.

Agreed. Mine's not even bad on fuel (6MT, King cab, Pro-4x), average in 3 years ownership is a hair over 19mpg. The dated interior is what probably turns most people away from it.

I would take the 4.7 V8 in a heartbeat over the 4.0 V6. The 4.0 isn't bad, but the 4.7 is better. I actually can't believe how powerful the 4.7 felt in the older Tundras. A '01 Tundra 4X4 feels like a hotrod compared to my DCSB V6.

Doubt Toyota will put the V8 in the Taco..... It's part of what makes the Tundra a more "premium" vehicle than the Taco. Keeping the V8 in the Tundra is what will upsell people from the Taco.

If the goal is to make money, I doubt we will ever see a V8 in the Taco.

They won't do it... but it would be great if they did. Keeping small engines in mini pickups is about the only thing Toyota has stuck with throughout the years.

Yeah man, my son was looking at buying that exact model a coupla months back. I got behind the wheel on one of the test drives, and the difference to my 3G Tacoma down low was immediately evident. No throttle weirdness/lag/hesitation either, just did what you wanted it to. Nice truck!
