I really don't think there is anything to base such an opinion off of yet. There just isn't.

Tacos aren't really much of a work truck besides being a parts truck or pest control truck......

This is easily the most ignorant thing I think I heave read on this website. Being a millennial, I did not buy my truck to haul stuff from home depot. You sound more like a softy, complaining about noise. I have owned many trucks and so far this is one of the nicer ones I have owned by far. It drives great, gets great gas mileage, looks good, and kicks ass offroad. The tundra is a monster as well, but I do not like the size which is why I went with my truck instead. I have dropped big block chevys, mopars, and fords in the back with transmissions and never noticed them back there. I have also towed cars around and somewhat noticed it, but not really had any complaints. It does much better than the 05 chevy I had.

It appears most people think that the tacoma is meant to be a tow truck. It's not. It is a light duty truck meant for offroading and occasional towing/hauling material. If you want a heavier duty with a "truck engine" get a tundra or diesel.

I'm not sure why you all think this. The Tacoma is 2/3rds of a full size truck... in every respect. Exactly what part of the Tacoma is not made for work? :annoyed:

It all depends on what type of work you are doing. Different trucks meet different needs.

I think he was saying there are probably better choices out there as a work truck.

So... what midsize truck would be better than a Tacoma for working?

My truck is my daily driver. (fuel consumption consideration)
I have a small business and haul stuff.
With a lighter truck and trailer I can haul more than a full size without a commercial licences and BS log books.
    I like the Toyota brand.
    What truck should I have?

Some people will buy a full-size Truck to pull a jetski on a trailer.

The load you're towing is probably very small in comparison to what a full sized truck can tow. I know my tacoma will not tow better than a diesel or a tundra. A tacoma is meant for work, but not in the aspect of what a full size will do. If you're hauling paint or bug spray around, sure. If you're hauling loads of bricks/dirt around a tacoma won't last as long as a full size.

    Too few to list.
Test drive the 3.5 with both auto and manual and compare it to your truck that has 350K+ then decide.

You couldn't be more wrong! A midsize truck will haul 6500 lbs as well as a full size will haul 10000lbs. The gen 3 with its low torque engine will have a harder time getting the weight moving than the gen 2 with its big grunt engine. The 1gr-fe was designed for trucks... for doing truck stuff. The 2gr... was not. Did I say the 2gr is also used in minivans.
There is nothing in common between the 4.0 and the 3.5 engines. They were designed for completely different applications.
