I would rather not preload my Kings any more, and have a 3/8" top plate spacer from Wheelers that I want to run on my driver side, and throw a 1/4" spacer on my passenger side. Looking at my current setup, I don't see any threads from the three bolts holding the top of the shock. From what I have seen, is that you can use OEM bolts with small 1/4" spacers... but that doesn't seem the case for me. Wondering if anyone on here has done this with an aftermarket coilover...?

It depends. My kings have 3 threaded bolt holes. Added a 1/4 a spacer to the driver side. I just bought 1/4 inch longer bolts. Some kings have studs.

I’m just under 3” lift. My CV angles are good.

Do you know the specs of the bolt or where you got them? I see headstrong sells some but are a full inch longer and no other info on them. I suppose I could just buy those and trim to length, but would rather buy exactly what I need. Thanks for any info

I went to the local ServiceStar and picked up 3 grade 8’s. I don’t remember what they are. They aren’t metric.

Is it just me or are these boots barely threaded in as it is?! Seems weird that the threads don’t at least go all the way in.

Maybe do some research on preload and adjustable coilovers.

What do you hope to accomplish?

Why do you think the bolts need to go all the way through? Their job isnt to hold up the entire truck but to prevent the shock from wobbling around; the coil over bucket is handling the majority of the stress and movement.

I imagine they are fine, but I would get longer ones for my own sanity! Also if you are going to run spacers, I would get metal, not polyurethane. Especially if you are going to be off road.

Adding a cheap ass top hat spacer to your $$$$ coilovers is just plain silly IMHO. What is the spring rate of your coil springs? What is your current up and down travel? Why don’t you want to add more preload? How much does your truck weigh? If you cannot obtain your desired ride height using preload, then I suggest to get springs with a higher spring rate.

I think you should do some research or seek professional help before making a decision to add a top hat spacer to your king coilovers.

    https://accutuneoffroad.com/spacer-lift-vs-preload-spacer-vs-coilover-preload/

This writeup seems like it was written for this thread. However, looking at my bumps up front only allowing 2" of up travel before the pillow'y bumps do their thing, I feel like the negatives of a small spacer is negated. Travel is being left on the table due to my bumps coming in contact too soon.

Accutune and anyone on here is saying more preload to fix this.... but if my shock is not remotely close to topping out, why would I reduce the down travel to accomplish this? If I had the OEM hockey pucks, absolutely crank down on preload to protect my blue bling investment.

FYI.... bolts for my kings were M10 x 1.5 pitch
