Yes. Doesn’t bother me though. If I need to go faster I push the skinny pedal harder. Not a big deal.

Joined the club a week ago. No rubbing on pavement but definitely offroading. Fender trimming in the works.ADA43CD1-6993-44D6-B162-14AA1B86CA4B.jpg 79DCBD58-88E3-4DEC-9BD1-C68F459CEB13.jpg

Changed my setup a little. Softtopper is gone, replaced by a Leer. Also I have a cab mount relocation waiting to be installed since Im still rubbing like a mofo with only 2" of lift. Still wheels fine, just noisy. Since people will ask instead of searching...

OME885s, 5100s on the second notch from the bottom, Dirt King UCAs, Wheelers offroad superbumps, u-bolt flipkit, headstrong 3 leaf add-a-leaf with overload in but cut down to about 18" long, 17x8.5 -10 SCS Ray 10s. Lots of trimming and bashing of the fenders, CMC but it still rubs.

Looks great man and exactly what I’ll be doing here soon after 5.29s come in. How do your CV angles/boots look? I refuse to go past 2” lift, so cab mount relocation I’ll be doing as well. Also, I see you bumped the 5100s up a notch, did the 885s sag on you? Is that a 315 tire or true 35?

Thanks. The truck actually scoots along surprisingly well if you dont mind high RPMs, maybe do the tires before the gears? CV angle is totally fine because the lift amount is low. I dont know that the 885s have "sagged" but they did settle a little from when they were brand new. Tires are BFG AT 315/70s so they are a little short, not true 35s.

Gotcha. Did you set the 5100s on the 2nd perch right from the start, or did you do that after the 885s settled? Curious how much they did settle if you know

Smash the hell out of the pinch weld, take cab joint clear back to the bolt, get JBA uppers, max caster you can get while still going kind of straight. I dont rub on trails until the inevitable point when my alignment gets jacked then it rubs a little but still fine

I like how on the first page someone asked about functionality of 35's on a taco and the response was most people don't do it for looks. I disagree and find that most people running oversize tires do it just for looks, but of course no one on Tacoma World.

That said, this thread has made up my mind that 35's are just not good on this truck. I am of the belief that if a rotating tire touches any part of the vehicle through any portion of articulation/turning then that tire does not fit the truck, and I mean any rubbing no matter how slight. I do not mind cutting, welding, hammering, but if it still touches at any point then it doesn't work and a lot of these posts talk about rubbing after all the mods. Large tires are not the end all solution to offroading. I have seen Suzuki Samurais with factory sized off road tires kick the butt of what appear to be "real offroad rigs".

I agree with some of this. To ME, rubbing a little doesn’t validate a solid reason not to run 35s if you do 95% of the work to make them fit. By that I mean a little rubbing on the firewall.

if you’ve regeared properly for off-road use (not just highway), aggressive CMC or relocation, firewall massage, fender cutting, UCA, 1-2” lift to keep CV’s at a decent angle, source a light wheel to reduce weight at each corner, etc - I think you’ve earned 35s and probably care about function more than looks...

The guys doing it for looks aren’t doing all the above - they’re jacking their coilovers up or db lift and then taking pictures for Instagram in a parking lot or flat fire road lol.

Big difference, but I agree with you.

    The moment I went to 35s I wanted 37s.

I wheel a fair bit, and rubbing a bit also doesnt bother me. The same people that usually worry about a bit of rub usually will have issues messing up thier slider powdercoat. Not saying all do, just saying there are much more important things to think about in regards to your truck, like enjoying it.

You from Eugene? You always parked at the auto body (I think) shop at the end of W 11th Ave?
If so I drive by you ever day on the way to work. Always thought the tires looked big!
