Holy crap. Okay, so after two weeks of delays, insurance finally agreed to total the Tacoma.

Just in time for me to scramble and hunt down a remaining 2010 before the prices go up.

...And also just in time for my birthday next week (hooray for buying myself a present!).

But at least I won't be stuck with a repaired/crippled truck.

    Congrats!!!

I wish they would have totaled mine last year when a d-bag blew a stop sign. For some reason though a 2006 with 60,000 that needed at first $14,000 in repairs wouldn't be totaled by the insurance. After repairs were started and almost complete.... then oh yeah 2 more grand in repairs came up.

I only paid 19 for the truck with 32,000 miles on it.

You won't regret having the NEW instead of the FIXED.

Just needs paint. Should be out by the end of the week, then I just have to sort out the salvage title issues.

I feel your pain man :( I got hit from the back a year ago by a drunk driver at a stop light and the only thing that saved my truck from the insurance company declaring total loss was my tow hitch. The hitch prevented his car from going all the way under my truck to cause any damage to the suspension and other drivetrain components. My bill came to a little over 10K.

Insurance originally estimated only 9k, including repairs to the frame and bed. Body shop was able to convince them that both needed replacing, not repairs. That helped put it over the edge into a total loss.

Glad to hear it all worked out with the truck. You will not have any trouble getting full coverage from any company with the salvage title on the Subaru. The value of the vehicle is now substantially less, usually 40-50% of the acv, but you will still have the vehicle and full coverage. Some of these posts were funny, ''make sure they total it, I would not take it back? Take it back from who, it is your truck, you never gave it to anyone, and if the insurance company decides it is more cost effective to repair it instead of totalling it, then it gets repaired. You also cannot make sure they total it. Unfortunately you don't get to pick, it is all about dollars. Everyone who has an insurance policy agrees to this, it is a signed and valid contract. Some of these guys better read the policy that was sent to them in the mail or they are going to have a nice suprise when they are in the same situation. I guarantee that if this was a 2010 TRD 4 X 4 they would have replaced the frame and bed and not totalled it because of the repair vs. replace cost. Good luck with the new truck.

 This was a 2010 4x4 with TRD Off-Road. And they did total it because of the frame and bed replacement costs...

I'm glad they convinced them to total it out... sounds like a good and reputable shop. Also glad the subie is working out too. Sucks it happened at all but at least it's getting done the proper way!

Roger that, I stand corrected, I thought is was a 2006, but the point was that the vehicle value + its salvage value vs. repair cost determines repair vs. total loss, not what the owner wants. Sorry I had to rant a little there. If some of these people owned an insurance company I am sure that what the owner wants would not be part of their decision to repair or total a vehicle. It is a business.
