2017 Tacoma TRD Sport long box
    None thus far
I have a 2017 Tacoma TRD Sport which I bought at the very end of the year, so it is just 3 years old now. Only 32K on it thus far. The transmission shift down on deceleration and when i get down to about 25km/hr it often shifts into either 2nd or 1st gear with quite a push. It feels as if something heavy is sliding loose in the box and just before you come to a stop it hits the front wall of the box. Sometimes you can hear an audible bang, and sometimes it sounds and feels like the u-joints are worn out and have slack. Of course there is no slack and nothing is worn out but this is how it feels.
The dealer in Langley downloaded an updated program onto the ECM and for four days the transmission behaved noticeably better, then returned to its earlier habits.
The service manager at Toyotatown says that I need to give it time as this is a 'learning transmission' and it is still adjusting to my (grandfatherly) drive style.
Has anyone else had this problem and if so, what have you done about it?

Do you have the ability to scan for codes ?
Most Tacoma owners prefer a scan guage

I believe your issue sounds like a TSB complaint and you should still be covered . I suggest pushing the stealership to do this .There is a lot of parts in this tsb $$$$$$. Get it done before you cant .
Its a good start to fixing your issue

You suggest that there actually may be a code that's hidden? I have a cheap scan gauge; haven't tried it on this vehicle yet. I'll take your advice and push the dealer on this. I've been reading for hours and there are a few posts about this where it's suggested that the slip joint or yoke could be the culprit or perhaps axle wrap, though that seems most unlikely as there is little torque applied in shifting down at low speed. I did find this helpful article: Toyota Maintenance: Lubrication Points (4x4wire.com)

Yes , there are a few things that need to be looked at but I would seriously push the dealership hard to perform the service bulletin . Its only good up until 36 months or 36,000K . After that , you have to pay to have these parts installed .
