I'm not looking to get a bigger set of tires, but will 3'' lift look good on 31's? 2.5'' maybe? What lift should get? Brand? Price? Pics?

I had 31s on a 2.5" lift and they did look kind of small...an aggressive AT with good tread will help. I upgraded to 32s because it's my daily and my gas mileage already sucks, but next time I'll go 33s.

Guilty of not paying attention to the fact that this was a 1st gen thread! Drive's me nuts when people do that, and here I just did!

My original comment below was based on 2nd gens which seem to need more modifications.
Having said that, I still think some nice 31 mud terrains would look great on a 1st.

31 inch mud terrains, which tend to actually be closer to 32 when new, will look like you actually off road it. Anything larger and you won't be able to fully articulate without rubbing or without modifications to the frame and body.
Anyone that tells you larger tires don't rub, don't really maximize the articulation of the suspension.

Now if you put a 31 inch all-terrain on it, yes it will look stupid.

Also do your research. Ideally Tacomas really should not be left it more than 2.5 in.

3" and 33s looks like it belongs. Yes you'll have to bfh the firewall but it's worth it. IMG_0214.jpg

A lift, some wheels, some tires, some performance, some cosmetic and then audio.

Are you saying that anything larger than 31" with a 3" lift and you won't be able to fully articulate the wheels? Cause that ain't true... Most people can run 33's with 3" lift, some don't have to modify anything depending on what wheels they run, others might have to hammer down the pinch weld or do some minor trimming. Pretty minor stuff.

At stock height, sure, you'll probably rub. I have always had 265/75's BFG a/t's (a 32"), and I happened to rub on the frame behind the LCAs when at full lock (on flat ground). Only time I rubbed was at stock height, and 1" lift (5100's on middle setting) still rubbed, but not as bad. Now, with 1.5-2" lift from my Kings and stock SR5 alloys and I don't rub at all. I never had a problem articulating, even at stock height.

You're right about the 2.5" lift. At that height you should have a diff drop kit to keep your CV angles in check, and anymore than 3" or so and you should probably be looking at a bracket style lift instead of just longer shocks. I run a diff drop at my 2" lift because I have mid travel Kings and didn't want to over extend my CVs at full droop.

Edited my post to reflect my not paying attention to fact that the discussion was 1st gens.:annoyed: I believe they have more clearance than 2nds.
I also did not take into account offsets and skinnies.

Nothing wrong with 31" tires on a taller lift, especially considering the drawbacks of larger tires.
