Are people running the overload under the 3 leaf? Or over. upload_2021-8-31_10-55-23.jpg

Also is there a way to tighten the leaf bolt? It just freely spins and is not snug.

Overload leaf goes under the pack - for the leaf bolt you use c-clamps to tighten the pack to be as tight as possible and tighten the nut onto the bolt. If the bolt doesn't have anything to grab onto from the bottom, I would thread the nut on as far as possible and use vise grips at the top of the bolt to tighten.

Just be careful not to destroy the threads at the top of the bolt (you might need to cut the top of the bolt to have your bumpstop fit over it anyways though but just to be safe)

The overload should always go on the very bottom. If you put the 3 leaf aal below the overload it will only lift the rear of the truck the height of the springs and will do nothing to change the spring rate of the leaf pack. If you run the overload with the 3 leaf aal the brackets for the clamps that are riveted on will contact the overload sooner than normal. I ground down the rivet on mine since it was almost touching all the time.

It’s just the three leaf pack goes from large to small leafs and the smallest bottom of the three is smaller than the overload. Sound right? I only wanted 1.5 inch but I’ve heard people getting more with the overload. Is the ride harsher? I have constant weight from either a leer cap or a rrt on bed rack.

You will likely need the overload to get the full 1.5" if you already have a constant load over stock. It might look taller originally but the leafs will settle and lower back a little.

SMH ‍♂️ I just read somewhere that my 3 AAL from headstrong was designed to be used without the overload leaf.
Well back to doing it again… sigh

I haven’t even gotten to installing one side yet. Hopefully someone can chime in.
I bought these leafs used and the bolt was too short for the overload to be in. I’m running to Lowe’s to grab a bolt tomorrow morning.

I had the Headstrong 3-Leaf AAL installed for 2 or 3 years and had the overload leaf installed. In-fact when I picked them up from Headstrong they told me to leave the overload leaf in since I had a shell.

This is what my leaf pack looked liked when I sold them.

Did it make contact with the rivet bolt?

Hey all, sorry to revive an old post. Did leaving the overload in affect the ride at all? Did it actually contact the other leaves to prevent sag or did it just add an additional lift just because it’s an extra 1/2” thick leaf?

I had the HS 3 leaf AAL kit on my 2016. The ride was OK, kinda stiff and I used the overload in there. The AAL pack never settled so i had an additional 1/2" on the rear that i preferred wasnt there. Made leveling the truck with coilovers up front not ideal. Not ideal meaning had to crank the coilovers to get the lift I wanted but preferred less preload. You can see the height in my build below in the sig. The 2016.
