I'll admit that I love how 6" db lifts look on 2nd gens.
but the sound of a bracket hitting rock sends shivers down my spine

    Ya,

My rear diff is based 100% on tire clearance. Bigger tire, bigger clearance. 6" lift gives my fenders more room to have larger tires.

As far as the front, stretching the front CV shafts to stressed angles just isn't good business.

    Again, just one person's opinion.

I wonder how the clearance under my IFS compares to yours.

You must have missed my comment about 90% driver.

As far as SAS, I think that's the best way to go for real hard wheelin...

If it wasn't so damn pricey, I'd consider doing SAS

but those angles mean the diff is being raised, not lowered.
Have you ever taken measurements on the front?

I've always just gone by eye, but never had an actual measuring tape in the parking lots
I'm curious as to what the actual numbers are for a DB with your size tires.

Drop brackets have less ground clearance no other way around it. My 3" lifted Tacoma had more than ny friends 6" by a good amount.

12 9/16" to the bottom of my IFS skid spaced a little from the diff. Running 886 coils and no spacers, with a slight rake towards the front and 315/75/16 BFG A/Ts at 35 psi.

11 1/8" to the bottom of my rear diff.

    Eh... w/e.

I don't have a dog in this fight.

I got what I wanted and couldn't be happier.

To each their own. Most people are going to recommend whatever it is that they have (6" or 3"). Given that you can find 3" "kits" online for like $200, most people would recommend that, since that's what most people can afford.

Of course there are going to be people who went 6" and wished they gone 3", but it is certainly fewer than the number who wished it vice-verse (again, IMO).

The thread asked for an opinion and poll, and I gave just that.

And I'm not attacking your opinion, nor ridiculing your choice. I'm genuinely interested in the numbers; and those numbers can be of use in this thread

I gotcha man. Numbers would be good. Especially for those who are going to make decisions based on it.

For me, I couldn't care less (although I feel the issue highly over-rated). Off-roading is not a big thing for me ATM, and until I get my locker, I wont be doing any anyhow. But I certainly do not feel my truck is any bit less capable than a 3" kit.

I know one thing is for sure, I'd be damned if I was going to drop thousands $$ on wheels/tires/lift to only be 3" higher than stock. No hiding the fact about it, 'looks' was my #1 motive and it hit the spot.

And that's all drop brackets are good for, looks...

A 3" lift and 33"s will out wheel a drop bracket anyday.

    3 inch...6 inch...doesn't matter....i like them both.

in my opinion...a lifted pre-runner is the only one going for looks than any kind of off road performance.

    meh..

want to do extreme trails..get a rock crawler!

worried about rubbing, scratches, dings, dents, sheet metal? get a rock crawler!

want something for looks? get an actual Long Travel Kit..there are several great options out there to choose from..i bet there are not too many LT taco's in your neck of the woods and would end up being a rare and exotic, people drool over that stuff!!

just from my experience with being on the trail with DB equipped taco's...there is no ground clearance in the front! the drop bracket gets hung up on rocks or whatever..then they have to get strapped or pulled out with a winch slowing the progression of the whole trip on the trail.

i have taking my taco to the limit and beyond, and now paying for it.. from cracks in the frame, cracks in cross members, cracks in wheels, broken rear ends, smashed exhaust and drive shafts... etc ect ect... all due to the fact that i wanted to do the more extreme trails, i should have bought a rockcrawler from the very beginning!..

not a single DB lift that is able to take this line!

    2a85mac_59232a195c8eac47ba19f2644b4536b9886115ea.jpg

no DB lifted truck will be able to get through here without getting hung up!
    29ppxmv_228f7df52219079bbf3e6212d5c2a273dc5edd9b.jpg

wont be able to make this section either with out a strap!

look at all that ground clearance, LOOK AT IT!..... don't be jealous! :D

Depends where you live and what kind of wheeling you do.
