    Does it require new wheels?

    Do I need a lift?

Do you need to regear? If so, I'm out.

New wheels is preferred with a better offset, or spacers, which I think is bad for the axle or something.

I would say 3" lift would make it look better and wayy less rubbing.

You don't need to regear, but if you don't your truck will feel like it's lost a lot of power.

285 is the height of the wheel. You probably need a lift to fit those. New wheels are not required. You may need to regear depending on your truck, but probably not. I don't know too much about regearing but i'm sure someone with more knowledge will respond with better answers than me. Also, Look it up in the Search box in the upper right hand corner of this webpage.

So the thread can be deleted. It's 265 70 17 for me.

285 is not the height, it is the width

    Don't assumptions: you mean 285/70R17.

I don't think you need new wheels.
I did anyway. Pretty sure the 17 inch stocks will work. Yes you need a lift. I have 2.5 front and 2 rear and I had to remove the front flaps. No you do not need to regear. I am assuming you have a 4.0. Note it will feel different, first thing I noticed was the feel of the acceleration, seemed like it works a bit harder with 285s. No big deal just want you to know it will feel different.

285/70/17s with bilstein 5100 set to max. like 2.5" i think and nothing in the rear

    no rubbing/ no spacers

2.7L and i could catch 2nd if i wanted to...

biggest thing youre going to notcie is gas milage suffering.

and theyre right. 285=285mm its called thr aspect ratio or something. second number is a % of first number and second number and that determines sidewall height. third is of course wheel diameter.

I was under the impression the sidewall height was the first # in regards to the second (width) and lastly the wheel size.......

    So 285 taller, 265 shorter....

So I see from the chart. That clears up a few things. Was hoping to lift front an inch and do 2 up size tire. I up for me. Looks like 265 70 17.

Does anyone know for sure if the '16 sport rims are 7" or 8"? The owners manual says a casting # on the wheel determines the width. J=7" JJ=8". So far I havent found the casting without taking a wheel off. I want to go with TRD SEMA black wheels, but need to verify the sizes before I get something I will be forced to lift the truck, which I am not willing to do.

I remember these. You must be at least 40. They did crawl up about anything or tip over on their backs. Nice foamy tires too....

What's important to you OP? Having tires that are 285mm wide or 33" tall tires? You could always go with a 255/85R-16 or 255/80R-17 tire. The BFGoodrich KM2 and Cooper S/T MAXX are manufactured in such sizes. Depending upon the terrain you intend to traverse, a narrow tire may be beneficial.

First of all, this is not my truck. I saw it at the dealership and had to take a closer look.

This is a Revtek 3' spacer lift with a block in the rear but he is running 285/55/20 (about the same size as 285/70/17). And there isn't any rubbing.
