Prerequisite: Find and positively identify the engine oil drain plug, fill cap, and oil filter.

1: Change your own engine oil and filter.
2: Do it every 5000 miles.
    3: Reread #1.

LOL. I just assumed that the locations of the engine drain plug, fill cap and oil filter were known variables. Never assume anything nowadays, I guess.

Oh no! Doing the maintenance intervals recommended by the owner's manual? You're a crazy man.

That truck won't make it, I'm sorry.

Two plugs enter, one plug leaves.

    Or is it quarts maybe?

4: Talk about oil online, summon every single aspiring chemist, engineer and rheologist in the world to argue why you are wrong.

I don't know what your stance is, but it's so incredibly incorrect that your oil beliefs can be equated to punching a baby.

If #'s 1 and 2 are inspired by that months long engine knock that turned into a motor swap thread, the 10,000 mile intervals were not the issue there. The issue was the dealer not changing crap.

But, since you clearly just want to stir shit up with yet another oil change interval thread, carry on new guy.

LOL.You laugh, but there is a lot of information out there that explains why this is a bad idea. I regret that I waited until it hit 5K before the first change. Should have been @ 1000 miles. Oil is cheap, engines are not.

The good (bad?) thing about the Internet is that there is plenty of information out there to support whatever ideas you want. People don't really have to change their views anymore due to the ease of confirmation bias.

And the fact that you claim to have learned something from this forum on the most hotly contested topic in any auto enthusiast group makes your point BS. There is no single consensus on this topic anywhere on the site (although there are plenty of arguments for different approaches).

In my opinion, the best option (if you think you know better than the two options in the manual) is to have your oil tested for your personal use case, but for some reason the short OCI advocates never seem to want to do this...

What you do with your car is up to you, but making broad claims about what needs to be done will certainly bring out the banter.

FWIW to the Grumpy Growlers; my opinion is just that, and I assumed that was a given. It is based on information I got from that guy that runs the Car Care Nut channel, and that guy that runs the The Motor Oil Geek channel. One is a Toyota mechanic with a lot of experience, and the other is a lubrication systems engineer.

Listen or not to whom you please. My observation has always been that oil is cheap and engines are not.

Oil change threads bring out zealots and idiots. These and threads about MPG or "is it totaled" should be saved for Fridays.

Ooo an oil change thread. My brothers uncle's sister's lovers best friend once told me over dinner that he does it every 300 miles with Mazola every other oil change to keep things looking and smelling FRESH!
