Has anyone figured out a way to utilize a 3-way component system in the first gen (2004 Double cab) without having to compleetly redo the door panels. I was thinking about keeping the 6.5" woofers in the door and mounting the 3 or 4" midbasses in the kickpanels. Not sure how this would sound though due to staging problems. Might have to move the tweeter down.

    Any thoughts or idea?

Also do they make 6.5" speakers that have small midbasses mounted on them (kind of like a 2-way that has the woofer and tweeter)

    Thanks

Don't see why you would not get great sound out of that.

Simple placement, if I were doing it, I'd put the 6.5 in the door and mount your mid and tweeter in the kick (assume custom kick here?). If you don't have a lot of processing power then this would help with signal paths and image placement.

Doing custom kicks play with your placement and angles.

I'm an old time fan (guess maybe old tech now with the age of extreme processors) of kick panel mounting. I've run some really good vehicles using the kicks.

Having said that though, I did sniff around at Pioneer's stage 4 system to see what that was all about. Looked at a lot of Youtube stuff on their dealer demo cars etc. They place the tweeter and 3" (think that was the size) in a pod either side of the dash. I don't remember now if they put the woofer in the door or a kick placement. Suppose to sound really good, image, stage etc. Reading between the lines though, they processed the heck out of it to tune it.

Depends what you want, how much you are willing to spend and what you are willing to mod I guess.

Mine is older so just have door components in now. Decided I did not want pods on the dash so gave up on Pioneer's deal, but have considered doing kicks. Just used to the floor space now and too lazy to build a pair of kicks to do similar to what you are considering.

Would be interested to hear how it works for you/what you did etc. when you get it all sorted. Might inspire me to get off my butt lol
