Does anyone have any recommendations for placement of a mid woofer in an 05 double cab tacoma? I didn't want to make a custom door panel and the kick plate option wouldn't work well for me because I have a manual tacoma so the clutch would hit.

    Lower door = woofer
    Upper door = small mid
    Pillar or dash = tweeter

    This.

I suggest making sure the mid speaker is close to the grill in the door. Most of them sit pretty far back and that will kill a bit of the sound output from it.

Kick panels are easy to make.

After hearing numerous cars (granted none of them were Tacomas), I prefer the sound of mids on the pillars/dash. It would be difficult to fit mids and tweets on the pillar, but not impossible. Unfortunately our gauge hood sits pretty high up and would definitely be an obstruction for speakers firing towards the passenger's side.

Be adventurous! - remove the o-$hit handle and mount a concentric mid/tweet (coax) high on the pillar.

we've actually built the sail panels into pods for a 3" mid and mounted the tweeters on the A pillars above the sail panels. I wish I had pictures of it. It turned out pretty awesome. the imaging was great and the Hertz Mille drivers we used and the Audison Bit One made it the best sounding stereo i've ever heard and my boss concurs. he spent about 10 years judging car audio sound quality competitions and he never thought that the best sounding stereo he would ever hear would be in a mid size truck, or in this day and age.

Thanks for the advice. I ended up going with hertz hi energy components and an audison voce 5.1k. I want to run all digital down the road when I get some extra cash!
