OP, welcome to the site and thanks for providing a literate, thoughtful post, which is far more than many other newer memebres are capable of producing. Be warned, however, that because "Raptor" is in the thread title, this thread will attract a lot of shit and probabaly be a completely off-topic Hitler-fest soon.

I was talking to a ranger at Arches NP (Moab) about some of the backroad conditions where I was planning to go, and she warned about one area with some deep sand. During the discussion, she mentioned they had a Raptor they used to send out to recover stuck visitors, but the Raptor usually also became stuck and also had to be recovered, so it basically became useless for their intended purpose.

Looks great doing donuts at the mall, though.

But... People complain about this new tacoma when all previous generations were very reliable. What I am saying is that we should have a little faith if previous versions were solid. Revving was the point of the S2000. No rev, no torque. I barely fit too, but somehow I managed and I'm 6'3.

450 is silly in a 2800lb car lol. I'm more about usable power. I honestly don't even mind the stock power (hp). I'm just wanting a bit more grunt down low and can't really do that without a header and E85 tune which is close to $2k in itself, when a turbo plus tuning is about $5-6k all in. I just couldn't justify staying NA if I wanted to dump 2k+ into it again. I'm aiming for 280-300whp.

Welcome aboard and nice observations. The tranny will learn your driving habits and get much better with time. Mine was a hot mess right off the bat with very slow throttle response and now at 2600 miles it's just fine. I have no issues with the tranny or throttle response. My recommendation is that you stay off the ECT button until your tranny adjusts because for me it extended the "learning" period for the tranny. Best of luck to you.

You will read a lot on here - good and bad - but all and all this is a great forum. I have learned a ton since being on here and there is always strength in numbers. If you have any issues, chances are someone else has had it before you and they can help you figure out what it is and what to do about it. Just hang onto your wallet because there are so many great ideas to spend on!

Welcome and thank you. It's not everyday some one says something good. I've had mine for just over a year and love it. It's almost like when you first get it the truck has to learn you and break in a little before it's comfortable. I've had both transmission TSB's done and mine was a quart low from the factory. I have all the confidence in Toyota that I have nothing to worry about. They did give me a 100,00 mile 7 year platinum warranty because of my transmission issues but I didn't even ask for it they gave it to me for free as a "piece of mind" is what I was told. There are so many recalls out there and everyone freaks out about them. My 2002 WRX had a recall 10 years 8 or so years after I bought it for the fuel rail leaking fuel on the hot engine block. At any point that could of caught fire and burned to the ground but it took them that long for the recall. Granted me being a car guy once I noticed it by smelling the fuel after I shut it off went in and ripped the intake manifold off and fixed it. This was as soon as I noticed it about 2 or so years into ownership. The dealer said they couldn't see anything and that there was no issue. Just wanted to say welcome and enjoy your truck.

    You just showed your ignorance!

I've owned a Miata before. Never have I had as much fun driving. Only sold it because I needed more room for the family.

Nothing beats passing a Porsche on a curved ramp off the interstate and it trying to overtake me and crash. Guy was alright but his ego took a hit. What I love about the miata is you can drive it to it's fullest potential ....try that with any other car. The S2000 is also almost on par with the miata.
