Wanting to lift my 2016 Tacoma and torn on doing the toytec boss lift with 285s or adding the 1" body and running 35s. I am coming from a handful of jeep jks all with 35s or 37s on them. My truck is my daily driver but I do not drive much so fuel economy is not a concern. Planning to get SCS SR8 wheels and bfg ko2 no matter what size I do. Wanted to get some input from you guys on what would be the better set up. Thanks all in advance

35s are nice, but if you are planning on wheeling hard, you would want to re gear, plus they are going to require ccm and a lot of cutting to clear at full stuff. You will also be more prone to breaking a cv axle, especially if you put a locker up front.

    ^^perfect response

body lifts under 1-1.5 inches arent enough to really mess anything up. now adding a large body lift will increase the center of gravity which could cause problems later on. but body lifts in my opinion look tacky if they are more then an inch or inch and a half anyways.

but back to op question im thinking of doing 3 with inch body have you found someone doing a body lift yet for the truck

4crawler is the guy to get the body lift kit ffom:

I've got a 3" OME suspension lift on my 07 Tacoma and subsequently added a 1" body lift back in 2009. Got it from 4crawler and the body lift has been fantastic for me.

I just feel suspension lifts are the way to go any time you want to do a lift.
Body lifts are kind of like corner cutting cheats that do change the dynamics of the vehicle. Especially when talking a new vehicle that will likely be taking on that wear and tear for its lifetime, just better to do a full suspension lift.
Especially since this will be an off road vehicle.

My other veiw is this, and it's just personal. Astheticslly, there is no point in doing under a 2' lift. It is a lot of work and some risk for nothing. Just my opinion.

In the event of a crash. A body lift puts higher than designed shear forces on the body mount bolts. There are only six bolts that hold the cab to the truck. Six. Two of which only have 14mm heads. IMO, it's not worth the risk. But to each their own.

Let's not change the subject. 1" or 1.5" BL is fine as long as you don't mind the aesthetics of it. I am just curious, coming from a Jeep with 35s / 37s - what did you do with it? Was it wheeled? Mud, rocks, sand or something else?

35s on your 16 will require more than a 3" lift and a 1" BL to fully stuff the tire but if it's just for looks it would be fine.

You posed a questiom to me, which was valid, on my reasoning for being against body lifts.

He answers you with more experience than I, but you discount it because it doesn't go along with your bias.

Don't try to question people for being illogical then turn around and be illogical.

35's require a lot of :sawzall:

You might want to add a snorkel to the parts list..you will have no fender liners trying to stuff the 35s. I don't know this first hand, but I have a few local guys who went 35's and wish they stayed with 285s.

2' of lift is a little much really, kind of overkill, but that's just my opinion.

How is it overkill? Lifts are for clearance and some asthetics. Has to be enough to matter and enough to see. Curious as to why you say that.

    Didn't I see somewhere a guy stuffing 285's under a 3rd gen without a lift? :notsure:

2 feet might be overkill is what he is saying..

You still have to cut the fenders to fit 35s even with a body lift. But that being said it was totally worth it and id do it again.

LOL! Not from my yard! Each one of those photo is the accident aftermath of a truck with a body lift. There is tons of examples of this out there.

First hand knowledge? I've never driven a truck with only one lug nut on each wheel. Does that mean I can't say it's a bad idea? Never had first hand knowledge with body lifts because I personally wouldn't install one due to the obvious mechanic disadvantages imposed on the mounting hardware; and from what I've learned from listening to (and not dismissing) fellow off-roaders.
