Please ignore if you don't have any helpful advice.

Can it be considered discrimination if a doctor says he prescribes a drug to all his patients but because you have a past drug abuse issue I refuse to prescribe it to you, even if it has shown to have medical benefits in general and specifically for my self...? The drug has no addicting qualities so why should past issues be a problem?! FYI the drug I'm speaking of is LEGAL.

take this as helpful and not the wrong way.

from my experience in retail pharmacy as a pharmacy technician at walmart where all the "drugees" and "broke people" go to get medicine (not calling you either or) theres usually a good reason they dont prescribe you a certain med even if it is legal. people will argue all day that a drug is not addictive or isnt considered a "controlled substance" so it should be ok but there are alot more factors than just that.

hydrocodone (norco/vicodin/lortab) control level 3 (if i remember correctly since i no longer work at a retail pharmacy) is considered a pain narcotic and addictive classified level 3

cyclobenzaprine (flexeril) is not considered a controlled substance but is a muscle relaxer that is "safe" and "non addicting" and yet i've seen that sell on the "streets" as well as it being requested by "crack heads" at the pharmacy.

also certain drugs may not be considered addictive yet because they are still under study. again my time at walmart when i first started carisoprodol (soma) is also a muscle relaxer mainly used for pain in the back was not a controlled substance yet a year later (and a shit ton of fucking paperwork) it became a class 4 scheduled narcotic.

im not calling you a drugee or crack head or anything like that just trying to inform you that if your doctor refuses to write you something because of past history of abuse than you should thank him for not sending you down that road again and if you really wanna go down that road then its not that hard to find them...or atleast for me there not lol

I also agree with this but is the doctor respectful to you? Do you gave a good relationship with him?

you have the right to a second opinion, now would I go in asking for said certain drug? no. but if another doctor thinks its the right medicine, maybe it is.

both are true but what im referring to is if he's going to multiple doctors to try and find the medicine he wants. now if another doctor says he needs it and is willing to risk it then by all means go for it.

i used to see doctors who knew their patients had addictions so they would only give them meds for 3 days at a time

 the doctor is doing his job.. you don't always get what you want in life. And you may not consider that helpful advice but trust me it is. The sooner you learn life isn't cupcakes and rainbows the better it will be

If you feel that the medicine will help, I'd just go to another doctor. But if they decide the same thing, then I think you're out of luck...
