they bypass the clutch safety switch. so if you leave it in gear it will try to drive. therefore in order to use remote start you cant ever leave your car in gear getting out.

but i prefer to leave it in gear but i dont ever want remote start.

No it does a clutch cancel so as long as it's in neutral the truck will start. Actually it will still start in gear but see above for the result.

I doubt the starter would overcome the e brake though so it would either fry the starter or probably just kick off and not start. Do most remote starters come with a switch override? I imagine several cars probably have a brake interlock on the starter so you could just wire that to the clutch switch and leave it in neutral.

I wouldn't trust my ebrake alone to hold the truck and always park it in 1st, I'd have to retrain myself if I got a remote starter. At this point it's not really worth it to me, I only work here until December then go back to school where I walk to school every day.

The starter doesn't necessarily overcome the brake but when the engine is started the truck is in gear and there it goes down the road. You would need the brake pretty friggin tight to keep the truck from moving if the engine wanted to go.

That only works in 4 lo and 1st gear though, and it only is supposed to spin the engine long enough to get it firing. Mine has no transfer case, we're talking about wiring a remote starter up on a 5 speed and if it were to start in gear the truck running away. I don't think it's be possible.

im sure it would. i mean just put your ebrake on and try to drive in first gear. its practically the same thing.

edit: ive never seen a vehicle keep going if remote started in gear but they will move 3-4 feet before not starting.

I am trying it when I leave for lunch... clutch in, yank ebrake, let clutch out slowly. I bet it dies.

And even then the engine is already running, it has way more power than the starter motor (which would have to initially overcome the ebrake to get the engine turning enough to run)
