Mine is almost ready to be made. Just need to figure out the mounting brackets.

And I'm tossing around the idea of aluminum. :anonymous:

Fallacy. The strength of 6061 aluminum is comparable to A36 steel, and aluminum is easier to rework if it did dent. It gouges easier since aluminum is softer, but it's easier to grind smooth. Harder to weld repair.

It's no different than denting a steel plate? Just ask HomerTaco, he puts his aluminum bumper through a lot and no dents.

Depends, aluminum can dent easier and believe me I know what he puts it through. I also know he has a huge dent in his front bumper

Hmm, that news to me. Last time he said he had a few gouges, but no dents. I'd go aluminum if it wasn't so much more expensive...

The cost is what I'm debating. It would be about $100 more I'd say. Weight is a huge plus, 50lbs for aluminum and 115lbs for steel. I don't know how to tig weld so repairs would be limited until I learn. If I do it, the mounts, receiver, and shackle mounts will be steel. The rest aluminum. It's a head scratcher though.

Depending on how much more it costs, I may go aluminum on an Elite front bumper... This thing is going to be my daily driver for another 3 years or so, so I still need decent mpg's... Haha

I think I'm definitely going aluminum on the front. It's a savings of 75 lbs at least.

Haha that's boring! Plus I only drive about 40 miles a week right now anyways. As soon as this one is payed off in 2.5 years I'm going to work on getting a new Tacoma. ;) That one will be the one I baby, then my 1st gen will hopefully get SAS'd or LT.

I'm not necessarily worried about the mpg of my truck after it's modded, but I would like to save where I can if I can. The up front cost will come back eventually. And less weight on your truck is less stressful on everything.

If I get the job I'm supposed to after school ill be buying a 2nd gen and LT it. Use my 12 for expo/overland and as a tow rig.
True true, my truck can handle a little extra weight tho lol

    Hmm, I like your reasoning!

If my tires wear out before I decide to SAS I want to get a set of 16's with 265/75/16's for DD. Then put 35's on my 15" rims for off roading.

I'm probably the only person who doesn't want another Taco in addition. If I get a new one I would sell this. I'm getting a Harley after college, then I would get an old muscle car before I get an additional truck. I have a civic on the back burner if I ever need a commuter car.

All I've ever owned is a truck, I just can't not have one as a DD haha

Plus my next truck will be used for everything, anytime I need to load something or take people somewhere I'll be good. Double-cab long bed FTW :D

I may entertain the thought of getting a Duramax, that would be the only other truck I'd get.
