I drink a lot of IPA's and Odell has the best one IMO. The far right is my favorite IPA.

no we need farmers. We need the ag trade. I just think kids should learn what they need to learn to do something else while in high school.

I wen't to a low-income high school that offered ag. Historically, it's a farming school that even used to cancel school early to let kids work the farmlands (granted, it's 110 years old)

but even so, it's as much on the kids willingness to learn as it is on how much money the school has

I'm working towards my chem degree. My bro's a grad student researching pharmaceutical biotechnology, my dad's an biochemist turned pediatrician, I have friends working on improving the efficiency of the USN nuclear reactors....we all went to this "lesser" school

the bigger issue should be your kids capacity/willingness to learn rather than what courses the school offers

the most expensive, highest rated private schools are here and ive met a ton of fucktards that graduated from them

I went to a high school where I was the minority, and I'm white so that should tell you just about everything. Got accepted to attend college at Penn st.. But decided to stay in CO for a local university. Got the career that I've always wanted, none of it was due to the high school I went too.

why not give them the option to take ag class in HS? maybe it’s something they like and don’t really know it till they take the class. than again maybe its something they think they will like but don’t. why pay for a class in collage for a class you don’t like. or maybe take years longer before you know what you want to do.

i think having it an option in HS is a great idea. the HS i went to did.

Yeah I like OB! I hit the brewery up when I drive by the area. It's a bit of a drive for me to just go over there though. I also like beers from the Bristol brewery but that's in Colorado Springs.

I thought about doing a cow. But figured I'd try something smaller for my first attempt.

    Um

Why not? You don't want your kids to learn where food comes from? Or how to take care of something other than themselves? And BTW I'm in college. I would have LOVED to have gone to a school which offered such a thing. I went to a very nice high school in Utah that at least had a greenhouse for us to work in and offered a few Ag classes which I loved.

As for your example, why shouldn't those classes be offered? If a town is big into coal mining, teach it in school. Not every kid goes to college and not every kid leaves his home town. That may give them insight into a future career option.

Thanks for the support! And out of curiosity, why wouldn't you want your daughter in FFA? I did it through high school and it's a great program.

I had these classes offered in my high school in Utah and it was one of the best schools in the state....

So what exactly should they learn in high school? They already have math, science, etc.

because then their parents may force them to take the class. I think that's the part that bugs me the most. They won't have much of a chance if they are forced into taking courses centered around farming. You don't need ag courses in high school to have an ag career.

But it's OK for you to force your child to NOT take ag classes?

And news flash...you aren't forced to take them. I was never forced to take horticulture or join FFA.

I didn't say I wouldn't want her doing it. I farmed my whole life until a few years ago. I was agreeing as in I would not want it forced. If my daughter wants to do that she can go for it as much as she wants. I was forced to do some things growing up and ended up hating things I would have loved because of it. So I will not do that to my daughter.

I didn't have these courses offered in my school and it was one of the best in the country. top 100 every year, ranked as high as 4 while I was there. A school here in La can offer ag classes and be one of the best in the state, but it's national ranking will be way way way down. Top in the state doesn't say much in most states.

Does high school ranking really matter much anyway? All I recall using was mainly my GPA to get into college.

I would take courses in metal work, graphic design if I was interested in engineering or architecture, not just welding and making t-shirts. I would only take ag classes or cooking classes if I was planning on doing those for a living. I don't see how they parlay into other professions.
