No mud flaps, plasti dipped emblems, and rear bumper, Weather tech digital fit, Bed mat from tractor supply. Pioneer 4400BH head unit. B.A.M.F bed rail tie downs. AVS vent visors.
new tires, new plastics(depending on style of bike may not have plastics) new lights or something. maybe frame sliders if it’s a sport or super moto. maybe broken pegs or bent levers. maybe new mirrors.

all that can add up fast on the money side, but easy has hell to fix.

yeah. but any of those things are good things to help knock down a price. the more of those things that need to be replace or fixed the lower the price.

Hahahaha yup. That was my exact line of thought. I didn't mind fixing a few things to get a lower price. But oh my god the things I actually ended up having to fix was so far above what I expected.

I would say be prepared to put in 30 to 50% more work than is appearent on first glance if you are picking up somone else's project.

In the same respect, i don't want someone's high milage, thrashed POS. I have age and odometer ranges set in my head. But i'll stretch them for the right bike.
For instance, an older bike that needs a carb clean, air filter, tires, spark plug, general tune up etc. is fine by me as long as its lower miles. Where as i'd go for a higher milage bike if all i had to do was fix some cosmetics or tune a few things up to par.

I talk this shit over with myself all the time but the most important thing is that i do well in the Basic Rider course this July. Because i may not; i may be able to do a little work on some bikes but that doesn't mean i can ride them safely and with enough knowlege to hit the streets.

I've been in that boat before. First bike i did a bunch of work on was a high milage 78 CB750 automatic. Problem after problem after problem. When i finally did get it running, the head gasket that i neglected to examine or care about...blew on the test ride. I said fuck it and sold everything. Lol

The more research I'm doing the more I'm leaning towards the 250L haha

If they have one local tomorrow and I like it I may just be a bike owner by the end of the day haha

Only problem with that is I'll have to leave it at a friends house until I complete the motorcycle safety course...

The downside to dual sports is that they tend to sit higher from what I've read. But the 250L seat only sits 4" higher than the little Grom. So I should be good.
    I haven't wheeled in 3 months :anonymous:

Luckily in Idaho to get the M endorsement you can skip the rider saftey course if you are over 21 and just take a written test and a parking lot riding course. Since the bike is finally done I had to renew my mortorcyce permit from last fall so I can take the riding portion and get the actual endorsemt. So I rode my bike to the DMV today to get the license to legally ride the bike  whoops.

I'm certainly not worried about my cofidence on the road, I'm warming up my confidence in the bike.

I pulled up next to a bike cop on my way to the DMV and was praying he didnt feel like pulling me over. I'm missing a number of "required" saftey features like front turn signals and a front fender, or mufflers. That would have been aweful trying to talk my way out of having an expired Mortorcycle permit

Hahahaha I don't want to know how many set backs I would have had to go through before I got to that point. Luckily I'm one that can't give up on somehing and have to finish it for y own fulfillment. I was telling myself I would get it working come hell or high water.

They make lowering kits too. Do not be ashamed at all to ask them to order you a lowering kit if you think you might need it. :)

Last time i was off road was on some sketchy hills, with a full bed of fire wood.....towing a log splitter....

yeah they are great all around bikes. plus you can go play in the dirt and jump it.

should be ok for a few weeks, just have the bill of sale with you, and if you get stopped tell them you are just driving it home or driving to have take the test. may not want to drive it around a lot.

I won't be buying any bike accessories from the dealer haha

I think if I can handle a 450lb bike on one solid foot well enough I can handle a 300lb bike until I feel the need to lower it. But time will tell. I haven't even seen one in person anyways. They probably won't even have one in stock...

What killed me was that i had pulled the valve cover and put it back on with the only good gasket i had and i didn't want to tear it back down even further and end up buying a gasket kit just for one or two of them. And those big SOHC fours are not very forgiving to tear down i think. Plus It was heavy, i was intimidated and unloading it seemed like the thing to do. I know it would've been to heavy and slow anyway.

before spending the money on a lowering kit, wait a few months if you can. it will settle and sit about 1” or so lower.

Another reason why a dual sport will probably be more fun. I can just go explore and when I feel comfortable drive 40 minutes to the lake on my weekend and not have to make a trip out of it like I do with my truck because of gas haha

Yeah, I'll just drive it around some back roads to get a feel for it until the next base held safety course. Cops are few and far between around here. My friend drove his bike for about 3 months before he got the course finished haha

You could work the lowering kit into the deal doe....its all speaking the hypothetical. They look incredible in person. Much better looking than the WR250 in my opinion.

yeah they kinda pricy. I have rode bikes for some time now, thats one reason i want a 450 instead of a 250. plus riding on interstates that have a 65mph speed limit.
