That's after taxes, $700+ in BAH that I'm not given, life insurance, savings, and medical.

No house payments or utilities helps haha

 

Full time, I worked 56 hours last week and the next 3 weeks should be 50 hours as I'm not on Saturdays until next month.
Yeah, I still live with mom and dad, beats living in my truck.

For sure. I mean salary is important, bu there are a number of other factors that are equally if not more important. I don't even know where I will end up out of school. By the time I graduate I will be a year away banking my contributed 401k (3 year vesting). So do I stay and enjoy the state, save and work here for a year to snatch that all up before I leave or move right away?

 

And I also have no official college education right out of high school haha

Surely you can live comfortably off of that with what you're currently doing. I know I can.

 

I thought about it, if I was able to be an MP it would help me in LE but I decided to get all the ford training I can while so I have a fall back career if LE isn't for me.

 

That's the downside to my job. Very limited in what I can do with my training outside of the military unless I want to deploy 8 months out of every year.

I would make 6 figures easily though....

What? That's more than enough for somebody that isn't married and has no house payment.

Some college is equatable to no college most of the time lol. Nobody gives a shit if you attend school. Plus your schedule is so wonky it's even harder to find a real job.

I totally respect your decision and occasionally wonder myself if I'm making the right decision for what I want in my life.

I'm starting my first college class on October 1st. Should be interesting while working swings and mids....

Now that I'm done with training (For now) I'm happy with me decision and love my job. Hope to teach this job to many others and finish out my career that way.

 

No it's not lol. Not in this country with our bloated way of life. It's different becaus you have a number of things paid by the military...but easily half that salary gets eaten up a year by just basic living expenses. Rent food and utilities.

I agree. If you can't live off 24k after basic living expenses (in your early 20s especially) you are being way to extravagant and spending beyond your means

And let me say I am by no means pulling the old "Oh poor me I didn't grow up with a lot of money"

I deal with a guy at work that says all the time how he had it hard and lived in bad neighborhoods and the world was out to get him

I was happy and enjoyed our yearly vacations that were just a weekend of camping an hour away from home haha

Now I don't feel as crazy for thinking I was making a reasonable amount after all is said and done haha

I make ~1K a month after taxes (A little less if it's a month like this where I only work one saturday), I still have to pull ~$350 for fuel for the month, and ~$100 for miscellaneous little things (The days I don't feel like packing a lunch, they days where i need a little something extra, which is usually a Mtn. Dew).
So in reality I should be able to put ~$500 in savings each month, but the last 2 months I've had little projects that just "have" to get done.

I don't pay insurance (I couldn't pay insurance because of cost), I don't pay for my room or amenities, and I have insurance but that's only until I'm 26 or no longer live with my parents. (the insurance is one of the biggest reasons my parent want me to live at home still)

 

there's always a place in there for those things if you manage it right
