Windows 8 ain't all that bad. You get used to it
    [IMG]
    You got your panel screen

    And your apps by name
    [IMG]

And then your standard desktop screen
    [IMG]

Don't be scared cause there's no more start button. And touch screen FTW

Still prefer Windows 7, I don't need touchscreen or use my computer like a tablet. That's why I don't like windows 8.
But do you play any recent games on it? That's what changes everything when it comes to performance.

Well that's my destop itself, it's just running windows 8. You can still use windows 8 on non touchscreen monitors.

Yes, I know. But it was designed on a tablet interface with a desktop layout as an afterthought.

For a normal user I'm sure it's fine as many people use it. But for somebody like me who like to have control over things that run and close them out, it's a bit more problematic.

I get that, but even still they act like their own entities. Ill open up a picture/video folder on the desktop, click it to play it, it brings me over to the "app" part and opens up a program, video plays, I exit but it's still on the "app" part rather than the desktop where I started. So I have to minimize that, go on the bottom to pull up the squares, and then click the desktop area again.

Rather than the typical program opens on desktop, you close it, you're still on the desktop.

I'm getting stressed out just talking about it  Same reasons why I don't like Macs. And here is Microsoft trying to turn into Macs.

I agree that a laptop isn't the most gaming friendly, but when you don't live in the same place all the time and have to travel often, a desktop isn't very sensible.

My plan was to build a desktop next Summer and just keep my current laptop for basic daily tasks. So much for that plan

Another reason I'm wanting to go with another Alienware. They still offer Windows 7 as on option for no extra charge.

Agreed. I have windows 8 on my cheapo laptop, i installed a program to make it have a start button and function like windows xp. However, when i press the menu key, it still brings up the windows 8 tiles :(

I'm wary of Windows 10. They're claiming it will have more of a desktop feel without going through the tabs/apps to open a program. We'll see....

Until then I'll stick with Windows 7.

They're saying there starting fresh with Windows 10 as something that will work on all of their products.

I don't hate windows 8, its pretty seamless on tablets and thats as far as it should go IMHO. Microsoft was either lazy by not making something different for regular desktop and laptop users or they were just trying to be ahead of their time by making something revolutionary.....but the history tells us how people reacted to it.

That all being said, windows 8 does make me almost want a Surface tablet with keyboard. But i need something bigger and more robust so a laptop it will probably be :|

Kind of hard to do that when you're flying. I'm not going to take a desktop to a hotel either when I can just have a laptop, turn it on and I'm good to go.
