Ok so I think I might've had enough with the gf and her crap, she is such a child. She volunteered to drive downtown tonight to see the lights and I'm sitting here messing with my phone case and she's waiting to turn left and starts crying and throwing kind of a fit/childish tantrum because I'm not "helping her drive" "when can I turn left?"
Like really why did you drive then, do you not know how to drive?
So it turns into this retarded bickering fight and I guess I said "fine you want to treat me this way then I'm not getting you your present" mind you, she wants a $600 Burberry jacket. She got me a ps4, but she's been insisting for like most of the past month "when are you getting MY jacket Dereck, oh you better get it now before they sell out before Christmas"
Really? You're gonna remind me when I have to go spend my money on you and tell me how to shop. I'm not that cold hearted though, I said well you better tell me what you want that's as much as a ps4 or less. She doesn't tell me anything "oh then get me nothing then" I said "this is your last chance, something around $400 or nothing" "nothing"
Wtf? What would you do? Taking her present away, which I haven't even bought so it's not even hers, is that being too harsh?

Fighting over gifts is childish. It shouldn't be about value. I think you should sit back and reevaluate obviously this is about more than driving.

I don't think it should be about price, more about thought. All girls are crazy to an extent, sounds like you found one thats higher up on the crazy scale. But it really all boils down to if you are happy or not. If you're happy and like putting up with crazy shit like that then continue with what you're doing, if not then hop out that car and into a taxi and go have fun. Then tomorrow spend what you were going to on her gift, on your truck.

Well I've put up with her for almost 4 years. It's more her than it is the situation, she's just always been that way and I guess I have to give myself some credit for dealing with her immatureness. Sometimes I'll feel like I'm taking care of a 5 year old.

Anyways she hasn't given me the ps4 yet, it's for Christmas so that solution is out.
She's always been the type to be more materialistic and want the good stuff.

3+ years in with my gf not a single fight. Miffed a few times but that about it. We say 20$ limit on xmas/bday/etc and call it good. If we buy each other something fancy it's because we want to bring a smile to each others face (and usually random day of year) and not because "it's christmas/bday/ etc"

If you want to keep the relationship talk to her and say "I know I'm not perfect but I need this to stop and is there anything I can change?"

Next gift exchange holiday set a 5$ limit and if either of you feel jipped you may be placing to big of a value on money/items

 

changing who you are just to make her stop bitching is no bueno

if there's some deep reason, with negatives for both sides, sure

but not in terms of holiday spending

 

Lol y'all are reading this all wrong. It's not doomed or failing at all. We're not on the verge of breaking and nor do I care.
The whole value of the gift thing is bullshit to me cause I can afford that kind of stuff but it's the fact that if I get treated a certain way over and over again I don't see it being worthwhile to spend another $600 on her. Just don't assume like you know the situation.
Every couple will fight some don't try to lie or act like it can be perfect.
