The 2018 FordF-150’s first 3.0-liter Power Stroke diesel engine officially boasts EPA-estimated ratings of 30 mpg highway, 22 mpg city and 25 mpg combined,” and that that those EPA numbers are the highest of any full-size truck.

But a Ford representative told me over the phone that those MPG figures—which won’t be on the EPA’s official website until May—only apply to 4x2 models, and the that the four-wheel drive version of this same truck scores an EPA rating of 25 MPG highway, 22 MPG combined and 20 MPG city.

There are durability problems with the F150 diesels?

Awesome, the ecoboost 3.5L in my families 2015 Expedition EL (4x2) will get 22-23 highway (cruising 60-65) and it's a beast of a vehicle (approximately 6K lbs) and if equipped properly (ours isn't) can tow 9500 Lbs, I've towed a 6K lb tractor/trailer combo and it will burn rubber in 2nd gear accelerating away from a stoplight.
The downside to the ecoboost is the economy isn't great for towing, with water jacketed turbos I don't think the fact that it has turbos will be a reliability issue.

I had heard that the ecoboost problems are a thing of the past. What's the word out there?

The only issue I'm aware of for the EB is valve coking, for the scorpion diesels the only common issue was bearings in the turbo but in '12 (?) they switched to ceramic bearings and haven't had issues.

There's no such thing as a factory F150 diesel yet, at least not in the states. I think he was referring to the Ecoboom, I mean, uh...Ecoboost.

The engine in your 2016 self-destructed at like 15K miles, right?

Less than 15k. Starting eating oil faster than a fat kid on cake at 6-7k then BOOM hair shy of 15k

So if one has to have a new F150, their best bet is a 5.0L, right?

the mpgs are pretty much the same as the ecoboost for the 4x4. plus I wouldn't trust any ford diesel other than the 7.3
