0 to 60 in 7-7 seconds for the 2.7L is not bad for me when the V-6 is 7.1. But its a world of difference to some of the few sport car buffs here that buy the truck without a test drive lol!

"Transmission shifting has been trouble free with none of the symptoms heard on the forums"

You mean the less than 1% that don't exist in the real world, but only here and the media?

Where do you get the 1% figure from? Do you have a source? Or are you just bashing the poor bastards who have had to deal with this because your truck works fine? Kind of a dick move if you ask me.

It helped a little because I love cable guy, but it didn't stop my truck from downshifting into 4th gear on the interstate, jolting me back into my seat at 6000 rpms because the 6th gear cant handle the weight and wind resistance.

Just because I'm part of the vocal minority don't make it right. I dished out 30k for this truck, and I conscientiously stay away from the interstate now. That's not cool.

I went for the V6, the I4 was only rated 1 mpg better (4x4). However, I haven't got anything close to 28.8 mpg. Best so far was 24 mpg all highway.
I'm happy with the V6 though.

No it doesn't make it right Kevin.

But the good news is that there is nothing wrong with your transmission, and there are options to easily remedy the situation.

First, the 5th & 6th gears are overdrive gears to help get better MPG and address government mandated mpg fleet averages, and people's demand for it also. Until recently, TOYOTA trucks only had 3-4 spd A/T. My 5th gen T4R still only has 5spds. The new Taco has six in the A/T
If you put it in S4 in mountainous terrain, you should get better performance. Additionally, you can try S-4or S5 with ECT button engaged and it will also help. Or any of those combinations with top tier '87 octane fuel and still get good mileage.

Moreover, don't underestimate the important part that good, top tier fuel may play on the engine performance equation
    in that type of terrain

Recently, My mileage had dropped and I couldn't understand why, as I was using top tier '87 shell petrol from the same gas station. Then I went on an out of town trip and after I filled the tank back up on the road at a different station, (and more$ pg), my mpg literally increased right away before my eyes as I had my suspicions because the T4R was doing the same and fueling at the same station.
Came to find out, I was using that same fuel station because it was the cheapest one of that brand, by far (at $.20+ pg less) than the surrounding ones for a good ten mile radius. Problem solved easily, hard lesson learned.

Also there are a number of TSB's out for that issue at the maintenance sticky thread posts

    Hope that helps
    Cheers!
