    How's it TW!

So I'm going in to the stealership in a couple of weeks for my 30k maintenance and I want to know what is required to change/check and how much will it cost?

I ask because I'm not familiar with this scheduled maintenance, which I was told is supposed to be a major one costing quite a bit of money. I'm looking up threads and some links online and finding different info. Some say just do oil, check brakes, and do tire rotations, others have longer list of things.

Last thing I want is to walk in there and get ripped off, which I'm sure they'll try to do

Any and all helpful information is greatly appreciated :D

    Mahalo,
    Chris

Yes. If you are confident enough, do all the required maintenance yourself and you'll save at least a couple hundred dollars.

Any idea how much dealers usually charge?

I'm thinking to be safe I'll just let them do it.

Shok Industries 2/0 big 4 upgrade and sound deadener.
Depends what the hourly rate there is(we charged $85/hour in Colorado), not sure how many hours they charge but probably enough to make you say holy shit. Honestly you could do it in half a day if you really wanted to. Fluids, spark plugs, and filters are all quick and painless for the most part. I think I paid $300 for an auto trans flush at Servco Windward. (Toyota ATF is also ridiculously overpriced)

get a quote from the dealer. I bet it will be around $500. you could try a few dealers if that's the route you want to go.

The dealer charged me $450 for the 30K mile maintenance. No, that's not a typo, i paid $450! Had the dealer do an oil change, replace spark plugs, replace front and rear differential fluid, and replace transfer case oil. If you're confident, then definitely do some of it on your own. See post #3 for the link.

I'm only at about 25,000 but I was over the 3 year time frame so I just did most of the "30,000 maint." list. I had the dealer change my oil because it was cheaper than buying the oil and filter myself, but I changed plugs and air filters myself.

Changing the plugs will take at most 2 hours, that's going very slow and carefully. Cost = about $4 per plug at the high end

The air filter you can change while you are doing the plugs since you take off the part anyway.

The diff and transfer case oil is easy since you don't need to jack up the truck to get to it, just make sure you loosen to top bolt first before you drain the oil.

Over all, doing it yourself will cost you maybe 5 hours labor but save you several hundred dollars. My dealer quoted me a price of $200+ for changing the plugs

X2.....go to the tech section on here. Plenty of great DIY guides with pictures. If you have basic mechanical skills you can handle fluid and plug changes. Save the Labor charges and put them in your MOD fund.

Just talked to my dealer and they said my truck doesn't need much because it's newer

The 60k maintenance is the first big one according to them.

My service should be a little over $100. Are they bull shitting me?

    I have a 2010

Depends on what services you want to do out of the ones recommended in the manual. At the very least I'd drain and fill the auto trans, and change air filter and spark plugs.

subed the spark plugs information.. great infor!! I know how to do the others pretty much. I rather do it on my own ,, knowing it got fresh plugs and oil in gearboxes. thus saving at least 300 bucks off from stealership.
Does anyone use Champion plugs? if so, happy with them and what part number for them?

I'd just run copper denso or NGK oem plugs. NGK personally.

Called my dealer yesterday and they told me my 2010 doesn't need major maintenance yet so they quoted me at a little over $100.

They said the big maintenance will be the 60k one.

Not sure if I should believe them
