    Hey y'all,

I have a 2012 Tacoma TRD and I have been neglectful of my maintenance. I am currently at almost 50k and have been changing my own oil. However, I have not changed spark plugs or differential oils. I plan on doing the spark plugs this week and was wondering what plugs you recommend.
Also, is the differential oil hard to do it yourself or do you recommend taking it to the dealership or another shop or does it even really need to be done at 30k? I prefer not to use the dealership because when I had free oil changes it would take them up to 3 hours to do it but will if you guys think its the best way to go.
One more question; is there anything else that I need to do at 30k
Any tips or advice would be great.

    Thanks,

    First off welcome to TW.

The front diff and transfer case if you have 4x4, might be a pain for you to get to, if you're just gonna crawl under it. If you have a pump with a tube it will make it easier. The rear is easier to get to. Otherwise they're all simple to drain and fill. The plugs just stick with OEM recomended. Might wanna clean your throttled body while you're at it too.

    Thanks guys,

I went to AZ today and the computer says that I need 1.5 quarts of 75 85 for the front diff and 4 quarts for the rear. However I cannot find 75 85 there or at O'R. Do I need to add the LS stuff as well?
Also, they didn't know how much oil I need for my transfer case. Will 2 quarts work?

1.6 on transfer case, no LSD add, rear takes a little over 3, some on here use 80-90

Does anyone know about voiding the warranty if I do the transfer case, spark plugs, and diffs myself or having another shop do them?

You'll be fine. As said, keep receipts or records of your purchases and records of your service completed with mileage at time of completion.

As expected, if you make an error while doing your own service, and that error leads to a mechanical failure, don't expect warranty coverage to pay for the cost of the repair.

Basically, read the DIY's....read your service notes....take your time.

So I did my 30k maintenance today at 49k miles and felt like I should share.

My spark plugs had a lot of wear on them

Throttle body was fairly dirty but I just wiped it down with a shop rag and some cleaner.

Transfer case oil was so clean that it looked brand new

Front and rear diffs looked like they could have gone another 30k or more

In conclusion, I will be changing my spark plugs at 30k and cleaning TB because its right there. I can feel the difference in the way my truck accelerates with new plugs. However, I fell like the transfer case along with the front and rear diff could go 75k or even 100k w/out changing the oil.

If anyone disagrees, by all means let me have it.

On a street truck I agree.
