Honestly, 30k may seem a little too early for a gear oil change for normal, especially since the cheapest stuff you can buy is like $12-$13 dollars a quart, and you need like 6 quarts just for the front and rear diff, not including the transfer case. Won't hurt to wait until like 60-70k, but you do you. Just did mine probably for the first time at like 76k, the rear diff was OK, but a little black, the TC was alright, but the front diff was nasty. Gear oil is just so expensive, but hey, at least it's an easy job to do...

We are debating gear oil but yes, it lasts forever.

@malatx I tried with a normal socket wrench but didn’t get anywhere. Went and bought an 18” breaker bar and it easily did the trick. Planning to do most of these types of maintenance myself going forward so had to get some tools on the first go around.

I’ve gotta say - driving after the fluid exchange is a LOT smoother. Really impressed

Thank you for asking this. I just went through the exact same 30k service experience last weekend and in TN too (at Beaman in Nashville). They charged $140 for an oil change & tire rotation, then wanted around $800 to change cabin/engine air filters, 4x4 TC fluid & front/rear differential. I'll be doing damn near everything myself going forward now that the 2-year factory service ran out.

Wow - that was my exact experience at That dealership as well. Couldn’t believe it was $150 for oil change and tire rotation.
