Hawk eyes over here. Same here making payments but get good discounts on my plan so the total with phone included is same regular market price for the plan. I’ll be using this one for at least 2 years also got the 6 a week after release. It’s just a phone to me I don’t use it for work just TW an YouTube I’m not on any social media but the truck on the other hand is where I’ll go broke.

I just upgraded my work phone from a CrApple 6 to a CrApple 8, not by my own choice either. Can't tell a single difference!

Also, just upgraded my personal phone from a S5 Active to S8 Active. Night and day in the best ways possible! Totally in lerv with the S8

Yeah, I'm lucky. In Canada Telus gives out a plan where you only pay $5 more a month and get the phone for a discounted price. The 8 Plus here is $1030 straight up. I paid $30 due to the Black Friday sale. So basically I'm paying $120 for a $1000 discount. I can live with that. Plus I own the phone at the end and they are always easy to sell unlocked for at least $200 if not more, so I make money out of the deal.

I have a work 6. It's bent lol. Big difference right there.

Between the two the app speed and camera is the biggest difference I notice. Plus Apple intentionally makes their phones obsolete about 2 years after launch so I'm expecting my 6 to totally brick in a couple of months.

No Active models in Canada any more. AT&T had a fight with Telus and they aren't friends anymore lol. I think the S8 is good, but the 835 is slow for a leading processor and needs to be updated. It was great last year but it's showing it's age already in some apps. Not something you'd notice maybe though depending on how you use your phone.

That’s a sweet deal I get discounts for being a vet an being a union member in my career field so it totals out to 58% off the plan. I was able to get the dual hookup referred 3 friends for it. I would prefer the 8+ due to battery life but I’m happy with this got me a UAG case an in good. Just wish I had the wireless charger now like the 3rd gens.

After iOS 11 my 6 went to garbage was barley usable took forever to load an app an even send a text the keyboard would hang up while typing but all is good in the hood now.

I haven't had any issues as of yet on my S8. Kept my S5 nearly pegged on RAM at a constant, never could truly remedy this.
Between gaming, browsing TW, texts, calls, and email, I feel the S8 will handle it all.

I was luckily never bitten by any OS upgrades but one. CrApple fixed it within a week.

Yup. Good old Apple. One day they are going to get sued over making their phones kill themselves intentionally right around when the average contract expires lol.

I use my phone for calls, texting, internet browsing, Audible, FitBit, and one of those car insurance apps that runs in the background to save $5-$10 a month on my insurance premiums. I used to care more about what tech was in my pocket, not so much anymore. <-(Also probably a poor choice for words). The cheapest smart phone can pretty much handle everything I do.

I can't imagine ever paying for insurance on my phone when I can replace it for less than the insurance premiums.

I’m lead to believe it was the hardware couldn’t keep up as you said planned obsolescence. My wife’s phone we disabled a bunch of bloatware made a huge difference in it. I’m gonna start waiting before big software upgrades to see if others have issues from here on out was a hard lesson learned.

Yeah, it will. In all honesty I walked into the store on Black Friday for a S8+, but changed my mind when I saw the sale on 8 Plus iPhones and played with each phone for 30 minutes in the store.
Every Apply phone I've ever had crapped out after 2.5 years. I mean it would work but it felt like using a Windows Vista PC lol.

Luckily insurance here is $9/month and covers screen breaks. I carry it. Over two years it's only ~$200 for piece of mind. Also, if it breaks, you sometimes just get the newer version of the phone. That happened to me a long time ago when I broke a Sony Xperia X1 and they upgraded me to a Samsung Active 5 no charge.

I'm fine with a Nokia candy bar phone that only calls and texts. I miss them.

I had one of the last Sybian phones they released. It was perfect. I was really sad when the battery exploded due to some software charging error on the phone :(
