Hello everyone in the 5 lug community, I am going to talk about the 31 inch tires and how I feel about them so far. Knowing very little about how a car works our how tire size can effect a car I would like to tell you what I have learned so far. @4wheelparts I got my lift, rims, tires, alignment, and everyone else done there with a huge price tag. Originally I went in with wanting to get 30 inch tires, but the quick salesmen got me hooked on the 31s. Now this is my fault for not researching before hand and seeing many of you rolling in those 31s I was very interested and hungry to put the biggest shoes on. I honestly don't like the drive with the automatic transmission stock gears at 3.58. I feel that I am very under powered and need better gears or smaller tires every time I hit a hill. I mean every time I hit a hill and even before hand I had to push the truck hard up hills with the 215s but it wasn't as brutal to say the least. I am most of the time in 3rd gear, unless I'm on flat or not on the highway. I was wondering what you guys think I should do I honestly am thinking about just going down a tire size from 365 to 335. I have seen 5lugfurys 335s and I honestly think those would be a much better spec for my truck and hills here in California. If I lived somewhere flat I wouldn't mind the 31s with stock gears, but as of now I am considering removing the 31s and going down to 335s. I recommend anyone who is considering the 31s to please research and think twice before you go to that size. You will be in 3rd gear majority of the time to get up any hills. I just thought I would inform anyone on the site about my experience as it has not been as much as planned. I will hopefully be getting some smaller 335 size tires.
I did some math and here is the calculator on gear ratio just as a estimate of what size tires ect.
    215/75/15 effective gear ratio 3.21
    265/75/15 effective gear ratio 3.91

    new tire size
    335/75/15 3.7

still trying to figure out what to do any advice guys I don't know if I should just keep the 31s till they wear out which will be a long as time or just try and sell them and buy the 335s or even 325s.

You have a couple of options. If you like the look of your 31's you should regear, which will run about the same price as new tires, but varies depending on your skills. There is plenty said in TW on the subject. Or go with 235's which our 5 luggers were meant for.

i work at a mechanics shop during the week when im not in school, but I don't have any idea how to regear or what parts would be needed. only 1 month into working on cars havent got to that yet. I want my power back any gas milage is a plus.

That complete ECGS 3rd member replacement is a drop-in and go solution. You will need to return your 3.58 geared 3rd member, or pay the $400.00 core charge, in addition. 31"s pretty much call for 4.30 gearing, by my own research on the topic. I know one or two people here, past or present, run the ECGS setup, and the Detroit Trutrac has a good rep. You could also just source gears alone from ECGS, but you are going to be spending coin in labor getting your stock 3rd member rebuilt by someone who knows what they are doing.

Sorry to see you had to learn the hard way.. i am firmly stuck at my current 225/75R16's which measure in at 29.3". I have the Manual 3.307 gearing which complicates the re-gearing issue further.

Just an FYI/Clarification - 5 Lug Fury is running BFG K0 or K02 235/75R15's, not '335'. They measure in at 28.9". He's also in Florida - No hills/mountains whatsoever in a state that doubles as a Billiards table.

Going the 235/75R15 route would be your most economical solution, at this time.

i am working at a mechanic shop as greenhorn. I asked him what he thinks he said he has done a few, but never for our trucks. He will ask his dad and Ill see. Most likely going the 335 route sadly ;*(. wish 4wheelparts told me about regearing or the fact I would need to. I just thought I would burn more fuel and lose a little power, but I can not stand the fact I might be hurting my trucks tranmission. I dread every hill or stop.

    my bad 235 haha.

In my area (Reno) which is pretty close to Sacramento, you could get all the parts along with the labor to regear for about 1,000 for a single axle. Not sure about San Diego prices though. But that $1,000 would cost about the same as new tires and allow you to keep your desired look.

talked to my head mechanic he said it wont hurt the tranmissiom, but the trade off is power and gas milage. So I guess ill just suck it up and ride these 31s. Hopefully ill get some good use out of them in the mud and dirt when its raining.

"the computer will figure out that you need more power and will just downshift more".

Sell the tires and get 235's....unless you have the coin to regear, lift, and get the bigger tires don't don it

keeping them I am just gonna have two sets. one set for off roading and one set for daily driving. Gonna go to the bank and get my money and get a smaller set for daily driving on my stock steel rims. thinking 225 or 235. i work at a mechanic shop during the week so it wouldnt be hard for me to swap them out for a off road session when wanted on the weekend. Its a win win for me I guess solved my issue and took the smallest loss possible. sorry for grammar all the time im on my phone and keyboard sucks.

I have maybe 500 miles on my 31's right now with the LCE header, I honetly feel like it pulls better now while keeping the rpms about 250 lower.
